From time to time I search for something and get a link to an item on the forum. But the link takes me to a text-only version of the forum; here for example http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=2028.10;wap2 (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=2028.10;wap2) . I have worked out that if I remove the reference to wap2 to leave me with http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=2028.10 (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=2028.10) then I get the "full-colour" version of the forum that I am used to seeing. But what is behind this strange internet phenomenology?

Alan, WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) makes a website "mobile friendly". So, that's what you get with the WAP2 extension, an easier and quicker to download version for mobile devices.

I did wonder about that, Wim, but mobile devices these days seem to be all about looking at pictures. Is this just a historical thing from the early days of mobile internet?

Yes...a remainder of days gone by!
