I had to take mum for her dementia review today and stopped over at Avondale nursery near Coventry on the way back - supposedly for a Papaver 'Staten Island' I'd been lusting after but that turned into the most expensive poppy I'd ever bought as it insisted on being accompanied home by some camassias, a peony, an agapanthus and several anemones...
Absolutely fantastic nursery; beautifully kept with a really interesting range of plants. http://www.avondalenursery.co.uk/ (http://www.avondalenursery.co.uk/)
Their national collection of anemone nemorosa was looking good;
Anemone nemorosa 'Cedrics Pink'
Anemone nemorosa 'Dark Leaf'
Anemone nemorosa 'Dee Day'
Anemone nemorosa 'Frenzy'
Anemone nemorosa 'Glyncock Gold'
-
Anemone nemorosa 'Ploeger de Bilt'
Anemone nemorosa 'Salt and Pepper'
Anemone nemorosa 'Twinkling Eyes'
Anemone nemorosa 'Wyatts Pink'
Anemone ranunculoides 'Frank Waley'

Sorry, Anemone nemorosa 'Glyncock Gold' slipped off previous post...

Avondale Nursery is a place I always visit when in the area, one of the few nurseries left where I know I will be tempted to buy something I've not seen before. Good that you've discovered it too Gail, as you say everything is well kept and I think the owners work very hard. As well as their own display garden there is Russell's Quarry Garden, six acres of peaceful wildlife haven and a must for May when the azaleas and rhododendrons are in flower. I believe there is cake available at the cafe at the adjoining Russell's Garden Centre , what more does a girl need for a good day out?
