As usual rather late in posting any pictures but weather been too good to be indoors. It was a beautiful warm sunny day for East Lancs, I even managed a long walk up onto the fell across the valley from the show hall during judging, not wearing the right footwear but still clean and dry when I got back....was I really in Lancashire!!!
Again, as usual, no particular order and not all first place plants, just the time and space to photograph which is why there is no picture of Alan Furness and his Farrer Rhododendron  as every time I went to photograph it there were lots of folk round it, eventually forgot I had not taken a picture...never mind Lawrence has already put up a good picture.
In class 68
Saxifraga x dinninaris 'Ray Woodlife' from Robert Rolfe, a lovely plant must be after him for a bit when next I see him
Saxifraga georgei from Mark Childerhouse
Narcissus jonquilla var minor Ivor Betteridge (70), he also had
Fritillaria hermonis amana 'Gokzun Gold' in (70) as part of his 3 pan exhibit. Robert Rolfe would have been pleased with the correct name, I show it as Goksun Gold as that was how it was named when bought from Ron McBeath
Shortia uniflora from Cliff Booker (79)...as they say 'nice plant shame about the label!!'

A nice Astragalus is not seen to often this time of year but
Astragalus loanus from Trevor Whitaker (78) was a good specimen.
Primula allionii 'Alice Evans' Geoff Rollinson (55)...the flash has made it not such a good colour but it is
Primula 'Moonbeam', quite loked this, sadly I got no exhibitor details, sorry
Androsace ochotensis x laevigata from Tommy Anderson (58)
Hepatica 'Millstream Merlin' from Della Kerr (65) was judges the best Ranunculacaea at the show and so won the Jim Lever Memorial Trophy

Two unexpected plants for me were
Soldanella carpatica alba from Barry Winter (64) and in the same class
Soldanella minima x alpina from Ron and Hilary Price
Saxifraga X concinna 'Ben Loyal' shown by Robert Rolfe (51) won the Leander Trophy as part of of the best 3 pan exhibit.
Trillium rivale Alan Spenceley (27), a nice colour
Saxifraga retusa from Alan Furness (29), not seen this on the bench for some time

Alan Furness was having a good day as he also had a huge pan of
Cassiope x 'Muirhead' in class 32
Celmisia spedenii from Mala Janes (37)
Hepatica 'Ho Ho Beni' shown by Brian and Shelagh Smethurst in (16) was one of the plants that won them the Jeanne Finch Memorial Trophy for the most first points from a Local Group Member
Saxifraga columnaris from Geoff Mawson (19), he seems to have a way with these difficult saxifrages
Tulipa kurdica from Edward Barraclough (22) again much admired, he seems able to produce every year for this show, well done

Fritillaria carica from Clare Oates (23)
Sebaea thomasii 'Bychan' from Keith and Rachel Lever (3), must ask them where the Bychan comes from. The Lever clan must travel a few miles during the show season given the number of shows they bring a trade stand to, quite how they produce so many and so varied plants for sale wek in week out means that someone is working jolly hard back home!!
Primula henrici from Peter Hood (5) competed with
Primula 'Netta Dennis' from Don Peace. No matter how I try I just don't seem able to grow this, so sad
Androscae muscoidea from Peter Hood (10)

Dionysia tapetodes 'Kate' from John Dixon (12), this was a fair sized pan
Hepatica japonica, again from Brian and Shelagh Smethurst, in (15)
In the New in Cultivation class (88) Derek Pickard had
Primula bullata var bracteata and I also add his notes on the same
Rhododendron dendrocharis from Dave Mountfort (83) caught my eye

Although the lighting at one end of the hall was 'modest' at best it did not prevent
Polygala chamaebuxus 'Grandiflora' shown by Colin and Kathleen Billington from winning the Merlewood Trophy as the best plant in the Intermediate Section
The Six Pan classes always create interest among fellow exhibitors and this week was no different, won by Don Peace. I will post a group picture of his entry and then do another post to include 5 of the six plants, missing out  Primula 'Broadwell Milkmaid' for a close up, front right in the picture

Don's Small Six plants were in Class 50 and won the E B Anderson Prize
Dionysia kuzistanica
Corydalis kusnetzovii
Fritillaria tubiformis
Pleione Bandai San 'Fireglow'
Frtillaria hermonis amana 'Anti Lebannin Form' plus, as I already posted the P. Broadwell Milkmaid, also a very good exhibit

That's all I have, I hope to see many of the Scottish contigent at Hexham this Saturday
