George Forrest is important to SRGC members not only for his work with plants but also because our premier Show Award i f made in his name - the George Forrest memorial Medal.
Leonie Paterson is the archivist at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and works daily with the collection of letters, photographs and botanical artwork held there. The first collection she worked with 16 years ago was that of the Falkirk born plant collector George Forrest (1873-1932) who completed seven expeditions in China from 1904 onwards. It remains her favourite collection for many reasons.
Come and hear Leonie talk about Forrest's life and connections with the Botanic Garden, see some of his fascinating photographs and listen to some of the words he wrote in letters home over 100 years ago.

Just back from the fascinating talk on George Forrest at the Smith. Large turnout (about 50) who all really enjoyed hearing about his exciting trips especially the first one where his escape was beyond anything Indiana Jones achieved.
