This is the first flowering from SRGC seeds, sown in 2014. Bought as Romulea zahnii 'Rosa'
-
Flowering at the same time is this 'rogue' found in a pot of narcissus seedlings. I have tentatively labelled it Romulea zahnii. It is a deeper colour than the 'Rosa' above.

Here is a fish box with about a dozen romulea seeds from both South African and mediterianum origin from last year's seed exchanges, stared in Feb 2016. Some leaves are over a foot long. These have been outside enjoying the temp fluctuations between 20F to 70F and seem not to mind the sub freezing temps. The soil is a frozen block in this photo.
Chris how tall are the leaves of your plants?

Approximately 150mm, kept in the greenhouse out of the wind.

Very nice Chris. It might be worth checking out R. linaresii, or maybe ramiflora, too.
Fantastic growth Rimmer. They're obviously happy with you.
-
Thanks Ashley, I'll check those out tomorrow. I know where the 'rogue' came from so I will make enquiries in that direction too.

Chris, I had one flower on the same day in my pot from seedex 2014, labelled Romulea zahnii. Today, with wall to wall sunshine and warmth the pot looked like this:

Romulea zahnii
Since this one is new to me I tried to find out a bit more about it and according to the Pacific Bulb Society its name should be R. bulbocodium ssp.zahnii. But ofcourse that doesn't fit on a label! :)

That's a nice bold colour Bart, and very quick to flower.
I'm still waiting for a response on my 'rogue' plant.

Whoops! Seeded 2014 that was, just like yours. Sorry! Just edited my post.

First romulea of the new season already :o
R. aff. bulbocodium var. leichtlinii
Turkey, Hatay, Nur Dağları, Karlik mountain
I sent this to the seed exchange as aff. bulbocodium.
-
Gosh, that is early, and very nice.
-
Romulea requienii from Corsica
-
Romulea bulbocodium found in the wild. I think they are now coming to an end in this country, very last flowers..
-
I originally got this as Romulea hartungii but I gather it is now considered to be Romulea grandiscapa.
It nearly got weeded out as it has come up in someone else's pot!

Another volunteer Romulea has appeared and I presumed that it was another Romulea grandiscapa.
However it has a very different form - possibly because it was more shaded.
Here's a comparison of the two types of flower

Nearly more attractive on the outside!

Romulea start to flower here.
Romulea bulbocodium (from seeds from Rafa)
Romulea columnae subsp. albida (from Corsica) This one is really tiny, less than 1 cm and difficult to find the flower even in my pot ! There's already a seed pod from very early flower.

Lovely Romuleas fellers. I used to grow a few at one time but found them very untidy plants to grow. Having said that I was at the stage then that my greenhouse was always full to the eaves and just everything was limited for space.
