Gymnospermium albertii has started to emerge
-
Gymnospermium are so interesting species; so rare unfortunately :-\
Please post an image with the fruits/seeds if it forms any. I am very curious to see - is said to have the same behaviour like Caulophyllum - the fruit burst open and actually develops naked seeds.
-
I did not see any seed last year Gabriela but I will observe it this year.

Thank you very much Stefan. That would be great!
There might be a self-incompatibility problem, but I didn't find anything about this subject.
-
I have a second species that will come into flower soon but unfortunately also just one flowering plant. I will try to pollinate both.
-
Here is the seedling that came into flower after three years after sawing. But to be honest just one of about twenty.
-
The colours are pleasing, aren't they?

Stefan, considering their relation with Caulophyllum/ naked seeds/moist storage, you've been lucky to obtain even one plant! It is beautiful.
I also found out Gymnospermium seeds are arillate, seen on fresh seeds of course; with difficulty I found a picture - see the link and scroll almost to the end of the article.

yes getting fresh seeds can be a challenge, but after 3-4 years you're rewarded
-
So I am waiting for the next years, when hopefully the smaller plants will flower and I can pollinate them. Gabriela, I was lucky to get about 20 seedlings of 4 different species and just the first is flowering now.
Maybe I'll try to cross pollinate my two species this week.
-
Then it's not too bad Stefan. I thought you obtained only one plant from 20 seeds ::)
Would you mind sharing the seeds source, you can pm/email - thanks.
-
Neither self pollinating nor cross pollinating of my two plants was successful. So I will get no seeds this year.

Thanks for trying Stefan, who knows what the problem may be. At least I've seen them in the article pictures.
-
Maybe I will have more than one flowering plant of Gymnospermium sylvaticum next year to get some seeds.

I am looking fwd to them Stefan! :)
Thanks for showing the tubers, I've also never seen how they look. I contacted him but didn't answer and gave up, but got few seeds of G. altaicum from a friend. I took pictures and will show later; the arils were already dry of course but anyway they satisfied my curiosity.

I have just spotted the same two plants as last year with flowers till now.
