Like every other Winter blooming plants, Helleborus are late this year (lack of rain during Autumn + cold nights and days in December = growth lateness ?). I found out this morning though, that H. orientalis 'November flowering' from Paul Christian is blooming for quite some time now... It's just looking at the wall behind it. Helleborus 'La Précoce' from Delabroye is still in bud. Not really early this year.

Hellebores are all flowering well now. Here is Helleborus thibetanus; apologies for the poor picture, trying to get to grips with a new camera.

as each year it's a festival, here're some photos of my early walk to Delabroye nursery.

a bus from Germany arrived while UK persons were talking the "wouah wouah" :D

black ones are stuning
-
;D :) I heard it was the Delabroye "opening" - I hoped you would be there - so pleased to see the photos - they are super plants!
-
Great stuff Yann, many thanks for posting.

And some to add to Yann's pictures!

All Thierry & Sandrine's selections too!

Way too many to choose from...

Hellebore galore

Some more...

And the last two...I photographed 75 but these were the ones that caught my eye the most.

Indeed a Helleborus festival! Thanks Yann and Wim, it's such a treat to see these beauties :)
-
great, i didn't have time to sort more this afternoon.
They're too many hybrids to buy €$£ :P
-
So beautiful Helleborus Yann and Wim, thank you for the pictures.

Wim, you have a wonderful collection ...
Or were you at Delobroye also like Yann?
I was not or current of the opening. It's a shame, the next time we can get all appointments and make a little restaurant afterwards. This was an opportunity to get to know each other better. I own a few plants from Delabroye, bought on plant fairs in Belgium. I love this gentleman. He always has an anecdote to tell about the plants he proposes ... their origins, creation, harvest, discovery, needs, ...

I visited Delabroye...I don't own these...I wish though :'( I was there at the first day of opening, Yann on the second day. Let's try to meet up the next time he has an open day, that would be great!

Some of my Hellebores- I did try to make a collage of the individual shots but failed!

Lovely hellebores, David.
Trying this again with my old camera.
-
Quite a range of hellebores, David, and they're all beauties. Thanks for showing. I still have a wait for mine but spring will come eventually. Fortunately, the deer usually leave them alone.
-
This has opened up among a group of bog standard single flowered plants.
-
A few in my garden today.
-
More beautiful Helleborus from all!
-
I hate to do this when they still look fine but it's better than having to weed out hundreds of seedlings.
A barrowful of spent hellebore flowers
Two pictures of Helleborus x ericsmithii 'Winter Moonbeam', bought in February and not planted out yet

Roma - What an embarassment of riches! I am reminded of a Hollywood, California resident whose compost bin developed gout.
Several new H. niger hybrids seem particularly vigorous, the one problem plant is 'Walberton Rosemary' which took off like a shot but then collapsed and is now in recovery mode.
Helleborus x 'Pippa's Purple' (photo #1) is very vigorous and floriferous as is H. x 'Anna's Red' (not shown) but it's colour is so close to the former it is barely noticeable from a distance. The photo #2 is of what is supposed to be H. x 'Penny's Pink', far from pink to my eye it looks like 'Pippa's Purple' to me. Can anyone confirm all three are similar or do they in fact differ dramatically?

And so it begins again...

An incredible photo of H. thibetanus Steve. I can even count the pollen grains. :)
Wonderful pictures all, thanks. I'm almost sorry hellebore season is now finished here instead of just starting.
-
Every year, the colours, forms, markings are more and more beautiful? bizarre? New anyway and always something to look forward to.

And so it begins again...

I'm inclined to agree John they all seem very similar to me. I reckon they wouldn't survive recognition if the labels blew away!
