This flowered in the garden last week, neither Amarlie or I can remember planting it there and we have no idea what it is. Can anyone identify it??

That looks like Dictamnus albus var purpureus., also known as the Gas Plant.

In French, it is called "Fraxinelle Pourpre". Effectively nicknamed a gas plant. In summer, if it is hot, the plant produces a gas that escapes from the leaves. This gas can ignite if a flame is approached near the leaves. :D

Thanks so much for the identification GordonT and Cfred72, have no idea where we got it from. We all love it.

:o :o Don't think we will ever get hot enough here, rarely over 30 degrees. But knowing Amarlie she just might try it!!

Hi,
Yes it is Dictamnus albus, a very nice plant. But you should handle it very carefully. It is a very allergenic plant and if you are sensitive it can cause a serious skin damage.
