Recent heavy rain has prompted a few rain-lilies into flower.
The largest are these seedlings raised from Habranthus robustus 'Russell Manning' which I presume are close to the original H. robustus;
Habranthus martinezii in flower

Funnily enough the next rain-lily to flower is a cross between the previous two,
Habranthus martinezii x Habranthus robustus.
This is one of the first rain-lilies we bought - 1999!

Here is Habranthus 'Russell Manning" - I think it is a selection of H. robustus - which we got more than 15 years ago from Discovery Bulbs. I had asked Murray at the time where he sourced the bulbs and he said he grew it from seed from one of the Seedexes!
It can send up quite a stout stem topped with a single pink flower which can be as large as a single Amaryllis belladonna floret,

1) Habranthus robustus - this is a seedling of 'Russell Manning' which is not as vigorous as its parent but very fertile as evident by all the seed-pods!
2) Habranthus martinezii in full flower now;
3 & 4) Zephyranthes 'Grandjax' - the hybrid between Z. grandiflora x 'Ajax' (Zephyranthes candida x Z. citrina);

Habranthus gracilifoius. A single flower after the leaves have died down.
-
It's August, and Zephyranthes candida has started flowering.
-
Zephyranthes primulina startet already in June, followed by Z. macrosiphon:

Last week Z. sunset from seeds from Mauro Peixoto flowered for the first time:

August 1st: On the left Z. sunset, Z. macrosiphon on the right. In the upper left corner you see the end of the tea bag wherein I collect the seeds until they're ripe.

Today I succeeded in catching a flowering Zephyranthes minima. The last times the flowers stayed such a short time that I always found only seeds developing.

Habranthus martinezii.
-
Zephyranthes candida planted in the gravel bed a couple of years ago seem to be surviving.
-
How do you shelter it in winter?

I don't.
