Happy New Year! May all your daffodils grow well in 2017 ;)
A chance seedling with well opened cream flowers.
-
We also wish you a very successful seeding year Tatsuo. We wish at the same time a lot of happiness for everyone. Happy New Year. :)
-
Hoping 2017 is a great year for all our daffy friends!

Narcissus atlas gold x albida
-
This Narcissus is really very delicate beauty

Narcissus ‘Kōhō’
This yellow hoop was selected from seedlings of Monocot Nursery's "Narcissus bulbocodium var. conspicuus S.F.391 Spain, Ubrique" at a nursery in Japan. But I suppose it can be a hybrid origin. It is too early for 'true' conspicuus.
-
I have a question that seems surely stupid ... I asked the question to one of the forum members by mail. I never got an answer. When you write "Narcissus bulbocodium var. Conspicuus SF391" ... What does SF391 mean or other series of figures that can be read?
-
Hello Fred, I guess you did not get my email from 27th December? I'll send it again.
This is the most important part....
In this forum thread, http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=5050.0 (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=5050.0) there are many such references listed. I'm not sure who SF is - but I'm sure another person will know...
Had a look at one of the lists posted in that other thread .... it says SF = Forde, P.
-
Thank you Maggi, I did not receive the email of December 27. Finally, I suspected that it had to be the abbreviations of the people from which the seeds or clones came. On the other hand I was far from suspecting that there could be as many ... :o

Thank you, Maggi :) That thread is very useful for me, too!

It was the RHS list that gave me that info for SF - which seemed to be an odd answer - wondering if it was a typo for SP ?!
Kurt Vickery clarifies the matter with the info that SF ARE Salmon and Fillan - Mike S and Mark F ( sometimes shown as S&F )
Thanks, Kurt - must admit that does ring a bell now!

Narcissus albidus SF110 x bulbocodium praecox Moulay Brahim
-
A beautiful clone! ;)
-
The photographic shots are for many as well. Cele highlights well the flowers and the plant.
-
The first narcissus flowers are out on my raised bed. Still no cat digging since the track ballast was applied! (They are going in my frames instead >:( )
Narcissus BD 03/53 - one of Brian Duncan's babies, Moroccan bulbocodiums x N. hedraeanthus bred to give short stems.
-
That looks like scree beds, Anne 8)
Is BD 03/53 fertile?

I can't remember. ???

As both parents are in the same section, they should be fertile. I'm not sure that I got any seeds on mine last year, but that would most likely have been down to the awful weather rather than any compatibility issues.
-
The rocks on your daff bed give a very naturalistic effect. The pic with the wee daffs pushing through could have been taken in the wild! Gad they are also having the desired effect in deterring the feline vermin!
-
Maybe I should cover the entire garden in track ballast! ;D

Hercule's work for next spring Anne ;D
-
Well, we had an interesting day - our 'new' donated second-hand greenhouse was not happy with the strong winds today. This morning 3 panes of glass were out and the retaining clips of others were popping out all over the place! We quickly tried to put extra clips in as many as we could in the hope they would stay put.
We've had much stronger winds in our exposed position, so I've had to be sensible and cut our losses before we lose the plants inside.
I ordered a Rhino greenhouse to replace it today. I think we may have to remove all the plants and staging to erect it though. Hoping for a prolonged spell of good (or calm) weather.
Hercules' work for sooner!
-
Narcissus serontinus seedlings one month after being removed from three capsuls and sown on the surface of this mix. a clear cup was pla ed on top for humidity until green was showing.
-
Growing well, Rimmer - but the bulbs will have to expend a lot of energy getting themselves down to a good depth and may take longer to flower because of that. So we have found here, anyway.
-
It might be possible to top dress them with a light covering of fine potting mix or gritty sand to give them a bit more depth for protection? I'd be very worried about desiccation if they're forming at/close to the surface.
-
Thanks for the advice.
I dumped some turface and sand on top.
-
Weather not very nice today so Ian retreated to bulbhouse to look at hoop petticoat narcissus

Narcissus romieuxii var. mesatlanticus :)
-
So compact as always, Tatsuo. Yours is about a 10th of the height of mine ;D
Daff season is certainly here:
Narcissus romieuxii mesatlanticus
Narcissus bulbocodium citrinus
Narcissus 'Limey Lass ' a Brian Duncan hybrid, which is very floriferous and increases well
Narcissus 'Lemon Flare' - another from BD
Also, a side-by-side comparison of flowers from each of BD's hybrids ('Lemon Flare' left, 'Limey Lass' right)
-
Narcissus jonquilla 'Twinkling Yellow'
Narcissus Galantoquilla Group - another from Brian Duncan, a demure little thing and increasing well here
Narcissus romieuxii JCA805 'Treble Chance'
Narcissus AW2798-3 - two shots of this lovely early trumpet bred by Anne Wright. I think this plant may now have a name?
-
It's called Rudolf. Not registered yet :-[
Galantoquilla is in bud outside here - hoping it will accompany the snowdrops!
-
So compact as always, Tatsuo. Yours is about a 10th of the height of mine ;D
This seedling is one of the smallest hoops I have ;)
-
Lovely daffs, Matt :D
Does Narcissus jonquilla 'Twinkling Yellow' always bloom at this time?

My jonquils are all earlier than usual this year. Normally I wouldn't even have much foliage showing yet, let alone flowers. Others are not far behind.
-
Some of the hoop section flowering prettily in the mild weather.
Craigton Chorister - one of Ian's beauties
-
Narcissus 2762c1 cantabricus x romieuxii Atlas Gold
-
Narcissus 2767c1 'Julia Jane' x bulbocodium praecox 'Moulay Brahim'. I hope I don't have to write many of those labels ::)
-

The labels must be large.

It's one of the best early blooming yellow with nearly flat cup :D Good breeding work, Anne ;)

The comparison of Lemon Flare is interesting - when you put them together like that you can see the limey tint on Limey Lass - definitely a cooler shade of yellow.
-
Very tall choir you've got there Anne!
They were a lot shorter when they started, the mild weather is not doing our stems many favours!
-
Then, give it a short name, quick!
Working on it!

The bulb frame was awash with so many flowers from them both I was keen to get my eye in and pin down their differences. Definitely a cooler colour to Limey Lass and I think the corona of Lemon Flare is also rather more flared and slightly ruffled.

They are prolific, the pair of them.

Narcissus cantabricus subsp. monophyllus SBL545 x SF389
-
Looking lovely in your conditions, Tatsuo.
-
Narcissus romieuxii x N. bulbocodium, this from Ron Mudd back in 2012 who got it from the Wallis'
N. bulbocodium ssp. genuinus
-
What a lovely fresh lemon colour!
-
Narcissus albidus 8853
Narcissus romieuxii julia jane in a small 7x7x10 pot
Narcissus romieuxii atlas gold
-
Narcissus romieuxii
-
I noticed a few Narcissus leaves a few weeks ago in my pot of Ipheion (can't remember it's current name and can't be bothered looking it up) 'Alberto Castillo'. Spotted a bit of yellow and thought that's not 'Alberto'.
-
Narcissus cantabricus subsp. monophyllus SBL545 x SF389
The same pot today.
-
A seedling of Narcissus romieuxii var. mesatlanticus ;D
-
Daff season well and truly started now - great to see all the hoops posted. Tatsuo, your strange split narcissus will appeal to the lovers of 'spikey' snowdrops, it will be interesting to see if it is stable.

I think its split trait is stable.
The seedling in the pictures above came from self pollinated seeds by this parent, N. romieuxii var. mesatlanticus ‘Tsukubanohanabi’.
-
Narcissus bulbocodium Mary Poppins
-
She's lovely, Michael. Not one I'd come across, but then Daffseek (http://daffseek.org/detail-page/?cultivar=Mary%20Poppins&lastpage=1&) tells me she was only registered in 2015. One to covet, hope she becomes more widely available.
-
Very pretty, Michael. Nice pale colour too.
-
Narcissus romieuxii mesatlanticus
-
Spring is in the air?
Narcissus cantabricus blanchard 8020
Narcissus albidus subsp orientalis
Narcissus x Don Stead (thanks Ian for this strong hybrid)
a Seedling...
-
Beautiful flowers Anne !
Here after the weather turned warmer your 'Rudolph' is finally getting to bloom. It is planted in the open ground and two weeks of negative temperatures do not seem to have bothered it.
-
Yann, 'Don Stead' here is much shorter. Kept outside it survived the negative temperatures but as it gets lots of sun it hasn't elongated... I like it this way though. You're right it's a strong one !
-
Great to see Rudolf! Yann - beautiful pure whites. :D
-
The hoop section is in full flow now.

Narcissus cantabricus var. petunioides x N. romieuxii
A seedling bred in 2013 opens its first flower at last :)
2 more seedlings are coming soon.
