Hi, I have spent a tonne on a root of Ostrowskia Magnifica. I know it is not recommended for pot culture but I have no choice. So I bought a 35 litre pot and a load of JI3 which I will mix with a bit of fine bark to open up the soil. Does anyone know how to plant it? It is a six inch root with two buds at one end. Vertical, horizontal and how deep? I know this is an obscure one but any advice appreciated!

Will you be able to keep it under cover, frost free for the winter? I think it will need that. Good luck with lugging a 35 l container about!
I'd be adding grit , rather than bark to the JI3, drainage is everything for these lovely plants, I believe.
A couple of members are growing this - you may learn more here:

Pot culture is fine -but you will need a deep pot.
Drainage and water management are key -I would add some JI3 to your grit (perhaps 1:5), rather than grit to the JI3.
I grow mine in a gritty coarse sand mix with a touch of loam and additional pumice added. It is in a deep long-tom pot sunk into another long-tom which is plunged in a sand bed in my alpine house (this keeps the crown and most of the rootstock above the level of the damp sand plunge). I water freely (with added tomato feed) when in growth but then cut back the watering as the flower buds start to swell. By flowering time I am only watering the "outer" pot.
I only have the one plant which has set a small amount of seed. It got its first autumn drenching about 1 week ago and three small rosettes have now appeared -these should start to grow in late winter.
