Title: Autumn Weather 2016
Post by: johnw on October 01, 2016, 06:00:47 PM
Our trees are getting desperate for water and will do anything for a drink.

Taking visitors around rhodo gardens today we walked down to Williams Lake, a popular swimming hole on the Halifax side o the harbour and were astounded at the sight.

john - +18c and no rain in the forecast.

The tail end of Hurricane Matthew has been blowing through here since this afternoon, packing quite a punch. Roads flooded, power outages, branches down, wind gusts to 72k/h and 102mm of rain down so far.  We are desperate for the rain but the drought-stricken areas in the south only got 49mm, northern parts which weren't affected got 220mm so far and it's far from over.

I really hope we don't get it here! We often are visited by the old hurricanes.Up here  (8PM) at 950m it is -3C and foggy but the forecast is very nice for today and the rest of the week.

Yikes, that is cold Leena.  Is that unusual for this time of the year?

We were promised our first frost last night but missed it by a few degrees, now the next predicted one is a week from today.  It would be nice if things got a hint of what's to come.

Guy Fawkes Day and Ian's elder sister's birthday - so, of course, it is raining.

And it even tried to make snow.  :P

It used to be usual even in south of Finland, but now with the climate change the last ten or fifteen years  we have had a longer autumn, many times until the end of the year before the permanent snow and cold comes. Only couple of times it has come this early since 2000.

WoW Leena!
I read your answer to John and it applies for Ontario too - long autumns and 'real' winter only in late December (I don't know how it was a while longer ago).

same here, +12°c and good rains, too much some kinds of bulbs. It'll need glass protections here and there in the garden.

-1 C.  Our first frost of the season this morning. Almost 3 weeks later than (the old) average. The climate is obviously changing in our region. It also looks like some much needed rainfall will arrive this weekend and cooler temperatures. High temperatures have been about 23 C - way too warm for this time of year.

+1oC here today, which is unusually cold for us and we've had sleet and snow. Maybe we will get that cold winter that has been predicted after all? Hopefully it will kill off any pests and trigger germination of some seeds that like a chilling!

Had a couple of nights down to minus 8 degrees C here in Aberdeen - perhaps autumn is gone and winter arrives?  Found these super photos, via NASA,  of the  view from Space of Scotland this week

Spectacular images Maggi. Hard to say sometimes when the autumn's gone.
First real snow (not just some flurries) supposed to arrive in our region tonight, so tomorrow I'll start calling it winter :D
