Post by: MargaretB on September 01, 2016, 12:59:22 PM
Can anyone identify this weed in my daughter's garden in Brussels please?

Are the stems trailing along the ground? It looks like wisteria which is making a bid to escape its allotted space.

Hi Margaret,
I'm probably way off the mark but it looks rather like forsythia foliage.

Yes, me too - the leaves are compound.

If it is Wisteria then surely you can follow the long stems to which the leaves are attached back to their point of origin.  AFAIK Wisteria does not sucker.

Thank you everyone for your replies, wisteria it is.  What a friendly helpful crew on this forum.  I will now warn my daughter to keep my 8 month old granddaughter away due to wisteria's toxicity.

I think it's the seed pods and seeds that are the toxic part that might possibly be eaten.  Apparently the bark is also toxic but who chews on bark?  My Wisteria has produced about one seed pod in 20 years, although I occasionally do see a Wisteria with a lot of seed pods.
