I have 2 nice clumps of allium beesianum, or one, anyway. What could the other clump be? The flower on the left of each photo was grown from seed from the SRGC seedex, the one on the right came from Rumbling Bridge. The left one comes into flower about a couple of weeks before the one on the right. Its petals are slightly longer,it is a less intense blue and it has fewer flowers per stem than the one from Rumbling Bridge. I would like to send seed from each to the seedex, preferably correctly labelled! Help please.

Allium sikkimense is really close to A.beesianum. I don't know right now which one flowers earlier than the other with the plants I grow ( I think A.sikkimense actually), but it might be that.
One should look after some other botanical identification criteria to be sure ( http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=101086 (http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=101086), line 63 and 64 for both species )

Thank you, Philippe, that's a useful link. I have had my magnifying glass out and have looked closely at the flowers. Neither has denticulate perianth segments, so I think that rules out both A sikkimense and yuanum and perhaps leaves me with 2 slightly different forms of A beesianum?
