Title: Galanthus fosteri

I was given a single bulb as G. fosteri last year and I've waited this long to see it flower. Marcus Harvey mentioned that it was unlikely to be the real deal in Australia and perhaps it might be a hybrid. It is finally flowering and I have a few photos. Can anyone comment on these pictures and help me with an identity? From my reading I think it is fosteri.

• Vernation is supervolute
• Leaves are bright mid green
• The inner segment marks are a good match

Hello Jamus , I grow the identical small charming species and I am confident it is the true G. fosteri  , regards  Otto.

Hello Otto, you ARE watching. Of course it came from you my friend and I didn't really doubt you; just Marcus was so sceptical he made me doubt. I should have known better!

I'm convinced too. It's so very UN-elwesii in its character, leaves and flowers.

I have tried and failed to grow G. fosteri outdoors and indeed it is reputed to be tender.  How are you growing yours?

Outdoors in the garden Alan, but remember where I am! Here in Adelaide we have hot dry summers and cool but rarely freezing winters. I am very interested in G. fosteri and G. gracilis because they may well be better suited to our Mediterranean climate than the species more at home in England and Europe. Peshmenii is another one that should be more successful in the garden here. I have these three now just a matter of waiting to see if they actually increase or just survive... time will tell.
