Title: Help me identify this tree/flower?
Post by: Ciel on July 14, 2016, 01:04:58 AM
Hello!

I've attached a picture of my fiance in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh.

Could anyone identify the tree/white flower overhanging the scene?

It's where I proposed to her, and I'd like to have the flower over the wedding arch next year at the big day!  :)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't have an answer but it might help if you told us when the picture was taken.  A close up would be ideal of course but I"m guessing you don't have that.  Also their must be some sort of groundskeeping crew at Holyrood.  You might have better luck if you tracked them down and sent them the picture.

Good luck.  Your idea is very sweet and romantic.

I cannot see it very well but I would think looking at the trees around it, it is probably a wild cherry, called a geen in Scotland. Nice thought, very romantic.

Congratulations, Ciel!  I agree with Susan - it looks like a wild cherry.  Have a wonderful life together!

It was taken in April 2014. :)

The most I have is a slightly zoomed picture of the flowers:

Thank you! I'll look it up.

Hi Ciel,

It does look like a wild cherry.

Unfortunately cherries are very short flowering (I think in April but it depends on where you live) so you will have to time your wedding day carefully. I suspect the blossoms may also drop their petals quite easily (at least they will be great confetti) so I suggest you pick them on the day. It would be a good idea to have a backup floral plan in case it's not possible.

Anyway, have a great wedding and more importantly, a great life together.

Wasn't it geen trees that Andy Murray had in the church for his weddling? Whole trees, not just branches! I think some photos were posted somewhere on this forum.
