I have just finished putting out my dahlias, my ordinary bedding dahlias I have Put in a new bed in front of my pheasant pen and my bishops have gone into the front garden, both should make a great display. I am also trying for the first time dahlietta linda, a bush variety, I have today it is doing very well, it has been flowering for over a week now and still more buds to come.

Hi John. Is that a red golden I see inside the fence?

You have buried that arrogant and egotistical little man? Well done John. ;D
-
Well done indeed!

Hi john yes it is, hi Lesley and Ralph, I take it you are referring to the Putin in my description? It should have read put in, but the iPad though otherwise😁 Are you liking the bishops display Lesley? Have you still only got Llanduff?, it has just done it again, changed Llanduff into Llandudno 😠
-
Hello John, yes I still have just that one Bishop (probably enough for me, not being at all religious ;D). and very fine he has been this year, almost 6 months of flowering, right up until the first frosts. I'm not sure that any of the others are in NZ but if I come across any I'll probably add them to my (very) small dahlia collection.

Hi Lesley I'm glad Llanduff is doing well for you, do these dahlias set seed? I was thinking that maybe I could send you some from the others.
-
My B of L has set masses of seed this year because I was avoiding stepping over the rabbit fence to cut down the spent stems. :) The seed seems to be viable in that it has a sort of lumpy bit in it which suggests some substance. I expect I'll get hundreds of seedlings! Thanks for the offer of others' seed but I just haven't the places to put them so no thanks. (I'm still sowing seed from a dozen different sources and don't think I'll ever catch up. That's what addiction does to you!)
-
Yeah no problem Lesley, I know what you mean with regard to seeds, I've loads of seeds to be sown.

Just starting to flower is D. Bishop of Auckland, a new edition to my dahlias this year.
-
already flowering since a couple of weeks and in no way comparable to any of the large flowered hybrids my Dahlia Merckii with the flowers floating well above the foliage.
