Hi all ,
Here are now some pics of cultivars from Czech. Rep.
Snow White Gnom - thats the tiniest little plant I know ( high 4 cm)
Bohemia White ( I have shown this plant also in a other topic )
Tatjana ( there is a bit confusion with this plant -sometimes not correct written the name -and sometimes other pics - my plant is from the finder and it is named after his wife -I have the label written from him )
Streifen -Weh ( a nice member has confirm me this name )
-
TATIANA isn`t correct. Always the same problem with the same source. ;)
-
Hagen :
the name of the wife of Wolfgang is : Tatjana
I had sent him , some years ago, a drawing of "Wolfgang" and "Tatjana" -he told me both are correct !
Always I try : on the safe side
-
Have a look into the galanthus-bible. Site 96 :o
-
I have ask Wolfgang - there must be something wrong !
also bibles have faults .....
I grow this plants since 8 years ....thats before the bible .....
-
My trip to the Czech woods is off :'( :'(
-
Some confusion here. Galanthus 'Tatiana' is a Greatorex double. I think Hans is saying that G. tatjana is a different plant with a different name?
-
Anthony ,
Ooops - I have never heard before that Tatiana is a Greatorex cultivar .....there must be really something wrong .
The problem is here in Germany it exist several different plants from Tatjana -and there is also a different pic in the Snowdropbook -maybe can Hagen make a little more ligth in this problem after the next weekend ....
-
Perhaps my memory is playing tricks?
-
But at first, here is alittle bit more trouble. Or not?
OBRISTVY
-
:o ???
also from Wolfgang ?
never heard this name before...
-
And here is TATIANA from the bible. How we like it.
-
Sorry for you Hans, aber ich weiß es nicht besser. Beide aus der selben source.
-
Anthony there is a hybrid 'Titania' and a nivalis 'Tatiana'

I would think the Greatorex double is "Titania" in line with the Shakespeare heroine theme.
-
Sorry, getting my tits mixed up with my tats. :-[
-
If 'Tatjana' gets a bigger distribution there will be much confusion with 'Tatiana' when mentioned by name
-
Sorry, getting my tits mixed up with my tats. :-[
a thing to avoid!
-
Sorry, getting my tits mixed up with my tats. :-[
Anthony, translation please - my excellent translator told me:

Hi all, after asking the finder of TATJANA, the puzzle has an end. TATJANA isn`t near white, so I have shown you false pics. Sorry so much. I believed in the book SNOWDROPS. Between the autors and the founder, the are also some misunderstandings.
For some clarity I show you the most actuelly picture of TATJANA:
-
Hi Hagen ,
Many thanks for your work with making clear this point !
I can now say all my plants from Czech. Rep. from this finder are correctly named -I'm really glad for it !
I hope in the next version of Snowdropbook is this missunderstanding correctet too ( the wrong name and the wrong pic )
Thank you
Hans

To all appearances the season of white fever goes by in UK ??? But here in east germany we have the best flowering time of the Bohemians now. I have a few STREIFEN-WEH to swap.

I am ever hopeful that there will not be a new version, but an addendum of the ones that were not included and new discoveries :) It could otherwise be a bit unmanageable.
-
I think a new edition with many more photographs would be welcome.
Paddy

Perhaps, with hindsight, the second edition missed the boat? It's alright for those who can afford Mark's 'dirty' and 'clean' copies (perhaps by selling excess plants on Ebay?), but I'm certainly not buying a second copy when the difference is minimal and virtually pointless.
-
my idea :
a online version of a snowdrop book .....so it was easy to make corrections and add pictures or better informations ...

Perhaps on the Forum?

I am absolutely sure that if the authors of the Snowdrop book, or any other, came to the SRGC with a proposal to provide such a project for the SRGC Website, then it would be happily received.
-
It must be said that to an enviable extent, the Forum already provides all of you with the opportunity to post your photos of plants, and discuss them....
What I would also encourage you all to to do, is to compile a file of photos, PLUS a description of vital details/ cultivation conditions and so on, and submit these regularly for inclusion into the main website's plant gallery.
You may send your submissions to infoATsrgc.org.uk ..... changing the AT for @ !!

Hans - Can you tell me more about the inner segment markings on your 'Snow White Gnom'. From the picture they appear yellow at the base but look more like embossing in the shape of an ellipse with no colour? Hard to tell more.
The Bohemia White is also a beauty.

John :
Please look here on the pics from Hagen - maybe it is now more clear :
http://www.garten-in-den-wiesen.de/bilder/galanthus/bestand/pages/SNOW%20WHITE%60S%20GNOME.htm
this plants are really small ( look in the Galanthus bible ( page 98 )
http://www.garten-in-den-wiesen.de/bilder/galanthus/bestand/pages/BOHEMIA%20WHITE.htm
my plants are mostly pure with - but some have small markings ( like the wrong 'Tatjana' from page 96 )
I hope this helps you a bit

I heard they are working on a new snowdropbible and this time with more photographs and the latest newnamed snowdrops. I hope they do not only use a picture of the flower but from the whole plant, so that you can see the leafsort and structure as well.

I agree, Gerard, more photos are needed and of flower and leaves...... I can't see the point otherwise.

Hi all;
Trip yesterday in Czech Galanthus Biotope. All Galanthis nivalis from Czech Republic.
Regards Wolfgang
-
Hi Wolfgang
thank you for posting the pictures of the Galanthus carpets spread throughout the woodland.
Can I ask, do you know what the sign says in the last photograph?
With many thanks
John
-
I think that sign warns of fines of large sums of money for interfering with the snowdrops in any way...... I hope I'm correct, and I hope that the signs are paid attention to by all visiting those lovely sites.
-
It is so dreadful to hear, from around europe, of snowdrop woods and even gardens being robbed of plants... >:( Some people seem unable to bear in mind that most land is under ownership and the owners is liable, quite rightly, to feel that inauthorised collection is theft ....... I mention this here because it seems that Galanthus are one of the plants that seem to engender the worst excesses of collecting mania... often for commercial purposes. Since nine times out of ten, when one approaches the owner to ask for the chance to have a bulb or two, permission is given, why do people steal?
-
Hi Maggi and John,
Contents of the shield.Excavation of punishment depending on the quantity between 10. 000 and
1. 000 000 Million Czech crowns punishment!!!
Approximately 385 € to 38 000 €.
regard Wolfgang
-
Thank you, Wolfgang!
-
Excellent - thanks Wolfgang - that is what I had hoped it said.
Cheers
John
-
They look wonderful woodlands Wolfgang, it would be such a shame if the bulbs were stolen
-
I think part of the addage is "take nothing but photos; leave nothing but footprints".
-
Thank you all for the interest of the czech Galanthus
