Title: Solar powered fans
Post by: Pennine Wanderer on April 28, 2016, 03:51:55 PM
I wondered if any one can give advice on solar powered fans for use in a small eight foot by 6 foot greenhouse.  I have no power supply to the house.  The chief use for the fan would be to try and prevent botrytis.  Dave

Hello Dave, does it have to be fans? Extra ventilation might be enough. I have a small louvered window in the side of the greenhouse, away from the prevailing wind. This window is never closed and I don,t have a problem with botrytis.

I have opening windows along the full length of both roofs of the green house as well as both side walls.  The double doors are always open together with a louvre window at the other end.  These are kept open all year but some plants especially Dionysias still succumb to botrytis.  I thought a fan may help.

Hello Dave, I lost Dionysia aretioides, which is supposed to be one of the easiest species to grow. I don,t think botrytis was the culprit. Perhaps lack of expertise with the family? I now have three other species from Pottertons to see if I can keep them. I will keep them in their pots, sunk into the sand plunge and hope for better results.
