Hi all, late notice (must not go on holiday so close to the show ::)). Poster and flier detailing the FIFTEEN, YES FIFTEEN, Nurseries attending.....How can you resist!!!
Alas, as we no longer have access to the school kitchen there will be no bacon or sausage butties :'( :'( :'(
Exhibitors will still be able to get toast early in the morning and the full range of cold goodies, tea and coffee will still be available.
Hope to see lots of you there.
Martin & Neil

Oh yes, one more thing for those who like to go out to lunch. The pub we used to use off and on (out the gate, turn left and go down the hill) is now a Co-op shop.
The nearest eatery is now the Harvester you pass coming into Loughborough from the M1, it's 0.7 miles from the school.

Holiday? Whazza holiday? ::) ;D
Fifteen nurseries ? Goodness me - the place must be HUGE!!! Have a GREAT DAY!
-
already got my orders in for collection on Saturday - just hope it does not snow
Cannot wait for first bit of retail therapy this year - I need to keep away from the hepaticas
-
and Graeme, this time come and introduce yourself...no matter how busy and harasses I look :P

Excellent day at Loughborough - sorry for the quality of the photos they were via the phone

However plenty of trade stands - plants on display were good - came home with some new bits
need a cup of tea
-
Yes a good show, came home with a couple of Erythroniums ;) good to meet Martinr and a forum lurker,Hot cross buns and coffee for breakfast excellent
-
Another good show day, by the looks of it! Tell the truth now, Chas - Martinr had already eaten all that carrot cake, hadn't he? ;) ::) ;D
-
Never got near the carrot cake :'( :'( :'(
-
Oh no, too bad! Never easy being a Show Sec. is it? Looks like a good show though - are you pleased with how it went? The benches looked fuller than Harlow, I thought?
-
We're very pleased. Significantly fewer entries than normal (whatever that is) but enough to make the hall look full. The general quality of exhibits was excellent and the new catering arrangements worked well, needs a few tweaks for next time. Did miss the bacon butties though! Nurseries appeared happy with the visitor numbers and the depth of their pockets :)
Need sleep now......goodnight
-
Wondered what that gentle rumbling noise was - but I think its Martin snoring gently - sleep well Martin! :)

Lawrence Peet has some great pix from the show here :

Great pictures - I am doing as good pointing impression in the second to last picture
5th April?
-
5th April?
I think that Lawrence spent so much money on new Saxifragas, the April date is when he will next be able to afford food! ::) :o ;D ;D
-
me too - next trip will be Chesterfield
-
By the way, great pointing, Graeme! ;D ;) 8)
-
Thanks Maggi and Graeme, hopefully amended now

Cheers, Lawrence - hope you're not too much a shadow of your former self when we "see " you next! :-*

Just how many did you buy? - I don't have that many but the very red one Aberconway had at the front of their stand was a must to acquire
2 bags of plants mainly P.Allionii and the biggest Broadwell Milkmaid I have seen in a while and a bag of Rhodohypoxis/Rhodoxis
-
I've "outed" you ,Lawrence - c'mon, 'fess up!
-
Well I think 26 Saxifrages 😳, so I think I now have in excess of 140 varieties😊, and I still have Prague to go!!!!!!
-
Hi
I have added my formal photos of the show to the AGS forum now here: http://www.alpinegardensociety.net/discussion/atshows/Loughborough+Show+/20070/ (http://www.alpinegardensociety.net/discussion/atshows/Loughborough+Show+/20070/)
These include photos of a number of Anne Wright's lovely little yellow babies - this is Narcissus Fringella Group which won a Certificate of Merit.
-
Great to buy so many saxs, Lawrence, but when are you going to show them? The Saxifraga Group salver was not awarded to the best Saxifrage on the bench, but to the only Saxifrage on the bench. Even then, I would probably not have awarded it - I can say that because it was my plant!
-
Peter, looking at the photo of your plant by Jon on this page (http://www.alpinegardensociety.net/discussion/atshows//Loughborough+Show+/20070/?page=3), I would think it will take a good few years' growth for Lawrence to get to your show standard! I'll bet he'll be working on it though! 8)

It was a great show, but did miss the bacon butties (and the carrot cake!), but the refreshments stall did a great job.
The Novice section especially was outstanding, I thought. I particularly liked the pots simply labelled 'Daffodil' and 'Snowdrop' - it made me smile.

Not sure what Lawrence was showing today - but see here for his haul of awards at the SRGC/AGS Kendal show:
