Narcissus minor, JJA702.305
-
Getting better each year, Tatsuo.
-
Thanks, Maggi :)
-
SO cute!
-
Yes, Anne :) It's so tiny.
-
Narcissus ‘Andy Blanchard’
Narcissus bulbocodium var. pallidus, JJA696.600
-
Bob Brown of Cotswold Garden Flowers once described King Alfred daffodils as a "social minefield" - whatever that is. Well, I love them! You can almost hear them sounding a fanfare for Spring!
-
Bob Brown of Cotswold Garden Flowers once described King Alfred daffodils as a "social minefield" - whatever that is....
Possibly because the name is usually applied to any unidentified 1-YY (yellow trumpet, yellow petals) or in the case of your pic, any yellow trumpet with white or yellow petals!

Very Spring- like today here, mild and sunny. Here is Narcissus cordubensis, from Anne Wright, and Narcissus perez-chiscanoi from Nick Macer (which I am told is a synonym of Narcissus confusus, or possibly Narcissus hispanicus!)
-
A couple of "cheap and cheerful" daffs: 'King Alfred', which was here in the garden when we moved here 20 years ago, and 'St Keverne'
-
Looks like spring has sprung, Ralph!
Tatsuo - great to see Andy in Japan :)
Here's a small one flowering with me, hoping t go to Loughborough this weekend. A N.rupicola marvieri x cyclamineus cross.
-
One of Keira Nursery's unnamed seedlings.

A unique little hybrid, Anne :D Does it smell?
Hoping you enjoy the show with your daffs ;)
One of Keira Nursery's unnamed seedlings.
They similar to your Narcissus 'Candlepower' x cyclamineus but look larger than yours.
-
Narcissus ‘Trumpet Voluntary’ is flowering at last :) About 12cm tall :)

For those that don't use facebook, here my last pics in the wild

Last to pictures, the plants that some authors call N. albicans, and they are in fact fertile N. bulbocodium subsp. bulbocodiu x N. cantabricus, descrived as N. x neocarpetanus nothosubsp. romanesis.
-
and now N. bulbocodium subsp. nivalis and N. confusus
-
some more N. confusus
-
good bye :)
-
Thank you for all these beautiful pictures. Sad to see the devastated cantabricus. I have the same problem in my patch of undergrowth with Narcissus pseudonarcissus. People for the devastating collect flowers and piétinnent all. I placed a defensive fence. The problem is lessened but some people pass more.
-
Rafa,
I enjoyed all of the Narcissus photographs. I especially enjoyed the background scenes of "N. cantabricus where happy and safe" and beyond. Your countryside looks very similar to ours here in Northern California, U.S.A. Actually in one photograph the background scene looks exactly like a scene close to our farm in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
Sadly we too suffer much needless habitat loss. I keep hoping for more awareness. Too often the destruction is completely unnecessary.
Anyway, we can always hope for the best. Thank you for sharing the photographs.
-
Just wonderful to see these plants and colonies in the wild, notwithstanding the pressure some of them are under.
Thanks very much for bringing us along with you Rafa 8)
This is one of the annual treats on the Forum that I look forward to most.
-
Thank you, Rafa.
Here's Narcissus 'February Gold', a little late this year.

Mines all finished Ralph, not helped by being ravaged by gales.
-
Wonderful pictures from everyone, especially the N. cantabricus. I love that snowy whiteness, not yet seen in my bulbs. I'm almost looking forward to winter for "if winter comes, can spring be far behind?" :)
-
How did that happen? ???

I have no idea!

the delicate flowers of Narcissus watieri
-
Wonderful to see these Narcissi in the wild, Rafa.
Another view of my pot of Anne Wright's dwarf trumpets. The tall one appears to have a hint of orange in the trumpet but this is not obvious to the naked eye. I really like the dwarf one but its leaves are a pale green and it does not look too robust so I hope it is not going to be a weakling. The third to flower looks stronger and is also going to be quite small. Two are not going to flower this year.
The first of my outdoor daffs - Narcissus bulbocodium
-
The widely available Narcissus 'Jetfire'.
-
The tiny Narcissus jacetanus. My camera doesn't want to focus on it - I'll try again if the sun comes out.

Ralph, hold out your free hand (or finger) just by the flower and half press the shutter button to lock focus. Then withdrew your hand from the view field and press the button completely.
-
Narcissus seguriensis, JJA 706.250. ex. JWB 01-05. Spain, Jaén, Sierra de Segura.

I'll give that a try!

Another cutie, Tatsuo. The N watieri is a favourite,Yann - a perfect flower. :)

Tatsuo,
This sounds like a very simple solution to "auto focus". I will be giving this a try too. Out in the field I find myself frustrated by auto focus all of the time. I can rarely get a focused image of a flower on a Sanicula species. :)
-
It worked!
Here is the diminutive Narcissus rupicola subsp. marvieri. Flower is 15mm across.

Hoping it'll be your help, Robert.

Good for you, Ralph ;)

Narcissus 'fairy chimes' is a great hybrid
Narcissus 'Angel's Whisper' fill with fragrance the greenhouse

Delightful, Ralph, be sure to smell it too.
-
Third Narcissus in the pot of dwarf trumpets. The perianth looks paler than the trumpet.
The first to flower is now facing upwards.
-
Spent the summer baking in the greenhouse.
Narcissus Mitimoto
-
Anyone how do Narcissus pallidiflorus and N. pallidiflorus praecox compare or differ? I think my N p. praecox may be wrong
-
From the name, you would expect praecox to be earlier.
-
But it's utterly gorgeous, whatever it is.
-
I've only got one Anne and was planning to chop it
-
Anne W's lovely Narcissus 'Vitrina'

Some in flower here just now:
N. triandrus x jacetanus
Speedie
Rubee
Twin Cam
Wee Dote - all four from Brian Duncan
-
From the name, you would expect praecox to be earlier.
Flowering at the same time
-
Some in flower here just now:
N. triandrus x jacetanus
That's lovely
-
From Brian Duncan, his label simply said 'a little trumpet seedling'
-
Great little narcissus David
-
Narcissus cyclamineus.
This form is from Aberconwy Nursery. It's always about 2 weeks earlier and has noticeably flared trumpets. It's a good doer in the garden and increases well by seed:
[attachimg=1]
[attachimg=2]
This form is from Crug Farm. Later and does not increase much. Also note the trumpets hardly flare:
[attachimg=3]
-
The one without the flare is the Galician form. They seem to be doing well in your garden.
-
Narcissus calcicola 'Idol'
-
Nice! I couldn't keep that one, but got some nice seedlings from the pollen.
-
Nice! I couldn't keep that one, but got some nice seedlings from the pollen.
A dainty flower which I hope will set seed.
We had two Bombus lucorum in the greenhouse yesterday but were too heavy for the flower. Didn't stop them trying though as there isn't much food for them at this time of year up here.
-
N. lobularis
-
The daffodils show a good contrast with crocuses, Philip :)
-
Narcissus cyclamineus, JJA 700.300. Portugal, Sigüeiro near Santiago de Compostella. Ex JWB02-01.
-
N. lobularis
Isn't that a synonym of Narcissus pseudonarcissus?
-

A very elegant form, Tatsuo.
-
Isn't that a synonym of Narcissus pseudonarcissus?
No, I think it's still a species in its own right.
-
Not according to the PBS Wiki.
-
So much confusion possible in Narcissus naming!
Plant List has Narcissus pseudonarcissus f. lobularis (Haw.) Voss is a synonym of Narcissus pseudonarcissus L.
and Narcissus lobularis Schult. & Schult.f. is a synonym of Narcissus hispanicus Gouan - and the latter has umpteen other synonyms too - it's all a question of which authority you are following. :-\ :-X
-
Just took a look on The Plant List but Maggi beat me to it!
Quite a few stockists sell something called N. lobularis (pseudonarcissus) (or the other way around) which suggests that the latter form is mainly in cultivation? The paper here:
http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00606-008-0015-1/fulltext.html (http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00606-008-0015-1/fulltext.html) however identified three horticultural stocks of N. lobularis as N. pseudonarcissus subsp. minor.
I am now losing the will to live so I'll leave to others to work out what's going on!
-
The one without the flare is the Galician form. They seem to be doing well in your garden.
Thanks Ann! Do you know where the other form is from?
Yes, they do pretty well here, gently seeding around in light shade. I encourage them whereever possible. I think I would have more if the slugs were not so fond of the seed capsules. They seem to do well in the N Wales climate, there are also good colonies at Aberconwy Nursery and Bodnant.

Narcissus 'Tripartite' is in bloom.
Last year there were 5 bulbs this year 20.
[attach=1]
[attach=2]
However, it seems that an intruder has multiplied together. I had not noticed last year in the pot. He had perhaps not ornate.
Anyone know this cultivar?
[attach=3]
[attach=4]
-
No idea, Fred!
Here's Narcissus pseudonarcissus subsp. pseudonarcissus. Big name for a small plant.
-
That one, I know, John. It grows naturally at home in our woods. I brought in our garden too.

Hi fred,
'Tripartite' (11a Y-Y) is supposed to have yellow petals - does yours fade to white or is it a trick of the light that they appear white in your pic?
If it is not 'Tripartite' then possibly it is a sport of a 2 W-Y and the "intruder" has reverted to the original form?
cheers

The third of Anne Wright's mixed dwarf trumpets to flower. (Bulbs from SRGC Discussion Weekend Bulb Exchange).
-
A lovely pale one, Roma. Lucky you!
-
Makes me wonder why it was rejected.. :) :-\
-
When you have lots of seedlings it must be very difficult deciding what to keep. Hope I can keep it going and multiply it. Two of the five in the packet are not flowering this year so something to look forward to.

Narcissus bulbocodium ssp obesus 'Lee Martin'........................need a big label for this one!
-
Worth it for a good plant like that, eh? The form has won several Farrer Medals for Lee and Julie Martin.
-
Yes, it's a good 'un. It's history is that it was originally grown in Tony Goode's garden and as it was a good doer in pots he passed some bulbs on to Lee Martin. Lee and Julie have won more than one Farrer with them and a couple of years ago my mate, Mike Quest, was shortlisted for a Farrer with his. Mike gave me these.

You can use a shorter label - it's just Narcissus obesus 'Lee Martin' nowadays :)

Narcissus confusus, El Espinar
Narcissus triandrus subsp. pallidiflorus, El Espinar (RD 04-010)
Narcissus pseudonarcissus subsp. eugeniae (= N. confusus), Teruel Mountains
Narcissus rupicola, El Espinar (RD 02-2010)
Narcissus cordubensis, Grazelma-Ubrique (PB461). This plant has much smaller petals than all other N. cordubensis I have seen... Is this really N. cordubensis?
Cheers, Hans
-
Nice to see these species, Hans.

Narcissus atlanticus, JJA 694.100
The seeds were from JJA web shop in 2003 and germinated 2004 in good rate. After that they grew well but divided into small bulblets every year. I tried to feed them much more than the usual last season and they put flowers at last :) :) :)
