Eranthis hyemalis flowers early and plentiful in my meadow.
-
Mine start coming too. In all, I have three plant Eranthis hyemalis (40 tubers planted in autumn) and a plant Eranthis cilicica on (20 tubers planted).
Below, two photos of E. cilicica, already with his aphids ... >:(
They passed from life to death, I spent my finger on it. ;D Strongly waking ladybugs. ;)

Interesting discussion "elsewhere" about whether there is any difference between Eranthis aurantiaca and 'Orange Glow' ........
........can't see a difference to 'Orange Glow'
~~~~~ petals all yellow. just a bit of orange round the stamens
##### There's seems to be some debate over when the name 'Orange Glow' was attached. I saw a large clump in Rev Blakeway-Phillips garden back in the 1990s and my plants came from here. It is possible the Rev who had a small nursery at the time gave it that name. The patch was very well established with lots of seedlings.
**** There is no difference.. 'Aurantiaca' was found in 1950 in Bikely nursery, Denmark...given to the botanical garden of Copenhagen and to some Dutch breeders in 1958 and was first sold as 'Orange Glow' by Richard Blakeway-Philips in 1989. This cultivars has officially been regsitered as 'Orange Glow' in 2009. Another name for the same cultivar is 'Copenhagen Orange'
#### Thanks for the explanation.
**** Took a while to trace back it's origin and the naming history, but this makes it the eldest selected cultivar,
......... Many thanks
~~~~ doesnt it depend whether the Vicar (Rev. Blakeway Phillips) imported it or it appeared in his garden of its own accord?
**** of course, forgot to add that the vicar got it from Denmark!
( ...../~~~/###/*** denote different posters !) ;)

HAVE to find me some E. pinnatifida....
Well Carlo, when you find some you know with whom you can share. That is a really lovely plant.
-
You'll be the first!
-
Carlo, Anne, you may be able to import from the Japanese Nursery, Yuwaza Engei - worth investigation? Those who have ordered from them speak very highly of their services.
They are SRGC members and advertise with the Rock Garden .... click here (http://yuzawa-engei.net/08English/03OrderPayment/03Order.html) to see their shipping terms.
-
Thanks, Maggi. Didn't see it listed but there were many other great plants.
-
They've had it listed before , Anne - and it's worth checking their seedlist in the summer.
-
I got pinnatifida from Japan last year in July. No bloom but it is growing.
Got it from Janis in 2013 and has bloomed every year since.

Erantis pinnatifida. It is a far cry from Steve's professional photographs. But it still fills me with joy

Beautiful! Your Spring is arriving, Oleg!

thank you, Maggi. All the plants are in a hurry to flower as spring here is a very short season
