Title: Ship to Ship oil transfer in the Moray Firth
Post by: Carol Shaw on January 20, 2016, 09:06:22 PM
Hi All
I need your help - the Cromarty Port Authority has applied for a licence to to be able to transfer oil from ship to sip in the Firth. Rules and regulations state that this has to be done 12 miles out at sea BUT the port authority encompasses a section of the Firth south of the Cromarty Firth. As someone extremely concerned about the environmental impact this could have I have started an on-line petition that will go to Richard Lochhead our local MSP and the Environment Minister in the Scottish Parliament. A similar submission for the Firth of Forth was rejected in 2008. Please would you take a minute to sign so that we can protect this amazing aquatic area... http://ow.ly/XkDdK (http://ow.ly/XkDdK)

I've signed, Carol -  ship to ship is too risky  for oil spills.

Signed.

Given the current price of North Sea crude this dubious and risky practice affords only a modest economic gain at massive environmental risk. Surely our politicians must see that this is a no-brainer!  ::)

Carol  has kindly agreed to let me post this in her thread - since it is a similar  project :

Noss Head, an unspoiled Scottish Headland  is under threat.

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) are at the planning stage to build an enormous HVDC electricity switching station the size of a football pitch on the Noss headland.

RSPB Scotland have voiced their concern by objecting to the application. See their press release here (http://www.rspb.org.uk/media/releases/414045-rspb-scotland-objects-to-application-for-shiptoship-oil-transfers-in-moray-firth)
