				Beautiful pictures Marit.

-
Great picture hoy, that view is spectacular, did you take the photo yourself?

 Thanks. Yes, I did ;-)
-
Amazing site, Norway is one beautiful country.

-
Beautiful!  I can only imagine what the condition of the roads and sidewalks, though!  :o

Yes, it is - but I forgot to mention that my picture is taken in Madagascar ;Y

No problems here but in the eastern parts they have had great trouble today with wet slippery ice everywhere. A lot of accidents.
The ice melted quickly here yesterday.

Speaking of autumn foliage check this Ginkgo in Xian.

Oh right, Madagascar is a beautiful country also  ;D

-
According to the sun newspaper, so it must be true, storm Clodagh is on her way and will batter Ireland and the U.K. for two weeks.

-
Hello I suppose this should now be winter weather, snow has arrived over last weekend more heavy falls this morning pictures taken yesterday cheers Ian the Christi kind

-
First day of summer here.  8)

-
Hello again just been out clearing our road and glasshouses supposed to be rain here are more pictures from the garden the big trees have had a severe haircut, cheers Ian the Christie kind

-
Beautiful photos Ian, but I have to say I'm glad you have the white stuff and not me.

-
The weekend forecast here is for 'incessant falls of heavy rain', which will make a nice change from the torrential rain of late :P ;D

A change is as good as a rest, eh, Ashley?!!   ::)

;D ;D No different here, Ashley, and we're in for quite a breeze this evening.

According to Maureen's diary in which she records days on which it has rained, in a fairly unscientific way, we had 27 rain days in November. This, and a case of man-flu means I ventured into the garden on only two days in November. :(

-
We are suffering through a heat wave here and see on the News that Storm Desmond has been causing floods in northern England and southern Scotland.
I hope all Scottish Rockers are safe!
 cheers

Hopefully everything is fine with SRGC members around northern England and southern Scotland.

-
Hilarious re-working (http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/must-watch-super-cil-with-teresa-mannion-remix-34263126.html) of a news report from Galway on recent weather conditions shown last night on Irish TV.

-
Best remix since Nick Clegg's "I'm Sorry"

On serious note we hear very little about the effects of the incessant rain in Eire.  Has there been severe flooding?
-
Yes extensive flooding, particularly in the west and south-west, and millions of euro in damage.
Fortunately there have been no fatalities although a young person remains in critical condition having been swept into the sea.
-
Hope fellow rockers in the north and west of the U.K. are ok.

We got power back at 5:30 this morning after being in the dark since Saturday evening. We had been told it would be another 36 hours until Lancaster substation dried out but presumably some temporary solution is in place. Other than this we have been lucky. Neither of us need to travel today and I am on leave this week anyway.

What made things worse was that the mobile network and local radio station was also down so getting information was really difficult. The total lack of trains going past on the main line at the end of our garden was weird, coupled with the only lights being the very frequent emergency vehicles whizzing up and down the A6.

One of Susan's nursery colleagues lives in north Cumbria and has been flooded out , together with his mum.
-
Hi Darren, glad the power is back on and you are starting to dry off. Hope you managed to take your weeks leave.

Thanks to the both of you for your hospitality and looking at the collection (despite no power!) - despite the foul weather it was looking good even at this time of the year. Yesterdays frost was most welcome here.

Im just looking forward to more days that are not mild and damp!
-
Welcome, Dave!   I reckon there are a lot of us hoping the same thing as you, regarding the weather - it's just jolly difficult to  function in every day life with our fingers crossed all the time, isn't it? !!    ;)    Flippin' weather!  ::)

-
I can't remember the last day that it hasn't rained here in some form over the last month or more. Thankfully the prolonged damp and still has passed but a mild touch of botrytis occurred on a couple of Dionisias and Saxifrages that has now been dealt with. Following storm Desmond the alpine houses were really tested but held up well although I found water can get around the roof vent hinge on both a Robbinsons and a Rhino! Roll on spring.

You are most welcome Dave - and welcome to the forum.

I did get my planned week's leave. Annoyingly my workplace was closed all week anyway due to power outage and all my colleagues also got a week off - but without taking it out of their holiday entitlement!

The weather forecast announced a warm January, may we must fear from late frosts?

-
				17°C here today.

-
We had a max of 12C yesterday. The last days have been between 8 - 12C but with rain or fog or both, and a little wind to stir things up.

-
Mild here too but with torrential rain and gales with little respite over the past few weeks. Some calming, cold, light northerlies would be welcome (with the emphasis on light).

-
I still have raspberries that are ripening on the bushes.

-
Crazy weather we are having isn't it Neil? You wouldn't thing it was only a week till Christmas.

-
12C here almost everyday this week. 14C yesterday. 9C today with a cold wind. Dublin was 17 one day during the week

-
Dis anyone see Aurora borealis last night? Here it was too cloudy to see them, but they were supposed to be very strong and visible also in more south.

-
				Too cloudy here also.

-
Although it is warm, +12 c this morning we have had over 35 inches (900 mm) of rain in November/ December and another 5 inches forecast today. The garden is now under water and the pond has merged with the border.

-
Very wet and windy in Aberdeen - even the Westies did not want to go out.

I will curse my sloping garden no more!!!
-
Thinking of planting water lilies in the garden which is partly under water for days at a time.

I had to do something to protect my Asiatic primulas from drowning so I botched up some clear covers for them made out of cole slaw containers They cover the buds from wet and have some ventilation at the bottom which is about 1" from the soil level.  So far so good but I will have to wait until March for the verdict.

As there was not a flower to look at in the garden, I went into B&Q and bought three boxes of cut-price primulas at £1.50 for 18 plants.  At least it makes the glasshouse a cheery place to visit.

*Forgot to add pictures in first posting !

Sorry to hear that Tony, hopefully you and Lesley are okay and have managed to keep the water out of the house.

 Susan (and Darren) x
-
Yes thank you the house is fine. The garden will survive and it is unimportant compared to the suffering people elsewhere are going through.

-
Glad to hear you are OK Tony.

Like Steve we are blessed with a sloping garden. Coupled with the bedrock being fractured limestone this means no standing water.

Incidentally , the house next door is for sale, with a similar garden in size and aspect, ideal for a rock gardener!
-
We just got home yesterday to messages from friends worried about whether we were flooded, but fortunately our village is not in the parts worst affected. Some properties at the end of our road were touch and go, apparently, but a lot of manpower saved the day. Not such a happy story for the people of York itself though.
Only standing water in one greenhouse this morning!
-
Very relieved to know you are safe , Anne.
Such terrible tales  unfolding in the news reports.
-
Glad to hear that folk are staying safe. This is a useful website of you are worried about your own property or friends and family: http://floodalerts.com/ (http://floodalerts.com/)  Since looking yesterday most of Scotland is now on alert. With storm 'Frank' on his way I'm glad that the dogs have been walked and we can stay safe indoors until he passes over.

-
I saw the news about the Storm Frank and am really hoping SRGC members around warning area are safe.

-
Have just seen pictures on the news of flooding in Aboyne, which is about  30 miles upstream on the River Dee  from Aberdeen.  All the affected buildings shown were new - methinks there might be a clue to be had there.
Of course there are some ghastly  floods doing the most awful damage in some places - but  the granting of permission to build in flood plains can't help.
-
It's so wet everything is going mouldy  :(

A section of the A93 Braemar to Ballater road has collapsed under the pressure of the overflowing Dee.

This picture was taken by  Johnston Press reporter Fiona Pringle at around 3:30pm this afternoon.

Police Scotland have confirmed they are aware of the collapse.

That is going to cause quite a problem.

I have 5 panes of glass out of the greenhouse and will have to spend a while tomorrow picking up shattered glass in the greenhouse and outside but I have no flooding though the ground is quite soggy.  I also have easy access to shops and a main road with no problems as far as I know so I have nothing to complain about.
-
Hearing about earthquakes - albeit not  very damaging ones, thank goodness - in both British Columbia, Canada and Alaska today - fires and floods in Australia, America, flooding and  storms  nearer here - Sue Simpson and George in  Dumfries and Galloway are  beset by water, for instance - though not at the house a so far - yes, some of us are very lucky indeed.

I know that section of road well as my grandmother used to live in Keith - what a mess its going to take months to rebuild that - I wonder if they will move the road away from the river a bit
-
It will be very difficult to  repair it I expect - and cause a lot of local problems  - it's not as though Braemar has  many roads going to and from it.    Not a lot of room to put the road further from the river - but it may be the only way to effect the repair.

 But Maggi,
 haven't you seen the prototype?

Where exactly is the damage? Crathie?
-
				Yes, quite near Crathie, Ralph.
