Title: Anemone blanda - which way is up ?

I have had limited success when planting tubers although I followed have the recommended regime of soaking and planting depth

Does anyone know how to determine which is the top or have a reasonably successful regime they could suggest?

I have never bothered. They have always found their way up!

When I planted mine I first soaked them over night then poked a small hole with my finger and dropped them in

The morning after I planted 300 anemone blanda the lawn was full of holes where a squirrel had dug them up again.  If I'd known I was being watched I would have left them on the grass in their paper bag for him to eat and saved myself all that work!  Last year I tried some in pots in a mesh covered cold frame but still didn't have much success.  The only thing that works for me is to buy them in flower and plant them straight away, although it is much more expensive that way.

 We certainly soak the corms before planting  but then they are just dropped into the ground any way up - I think the greater problem is predation by mice, or, as so  distressingly described - squirrels.....  :'(

Margaret and Maggi I hadn't considered squirrels so maybe that's it.
