Title: Rare rose

This rose is from Chadwell seeds, sown some years ago. I have lost the collecting number so I can't identify the rose. Does anybody have a suggestion?

It is climbing/trailing. The stem is red. 7-9 leaflets. Many flowers opening few at the time in the inflorescence. Nice scent of rose(!). Flowers in July in Norway. Very healthy, no diseases although nearby roses are affected.

Could be R. sinowilsonii, but the flowers don't look quite right.

Nice rose, but I think neither the thorns nor the leaves fit quite either.

I've taken the line of least resistance, Trond - I've emailed Chris Chadwell with the photos.
Not sure if he is around or able to be on the end of his email right now, but we'll see if he can give an answer sometime.  :)

Hardly a 'rock garden plant' but yes I can quickly and easily (often not the case)  to provide a name and am happy to do so.
Labels often get lost or never existed. Or a name within the limits of what is known about the flora of the Himalaya - which has overall been poorly studied since the 1930s, particularly in the Indian districts, where field-work has been virtually non-existent or undertaken to a woeful standard (I am actually being quite generous in my description).

It is ROSA BRUNONII - the 'Himalayan Musk Rose'; quite variable; not sure if anyone
has proposed names for any of the variants/variations. An old synonym was ROSA MOSCHATA.

Have made quite a number of collections of this and usually it came with a species name.

I seem to recollect a 'Betty Sherriff's Rose' being described in 'The Plantsman' many years ago.

The form I have in the rear section of my humble garden flowered well this year, with particularly large blooms.

That's great! Thank you Maggi (and Chris!) :)

Seems to be variable, as Chris says. My plant has smaller flowers than the one Chris shows but the plant is very healthy and good-looking.
