Crocus vernus 'Oradea' - a very nice Crocus selection from Janis Ruksans.
Crocus versicolor 'Painters Joy' - new to me but such a stunning good colour in bud! Also from Janis Ruksans.

These are really from February
Crocus imperati
Crocus tommasinianus albus?  It appeared this year in a piece of rough ground where I have some Narcissus  planted.  I remember I did have it once and it was such a miserable flower I threw the corms away.  Obviously it is a tough survivor.

Crocus imperati and Crocus etruscus corms had escaped being eaten by voles but the flowers disappeared last night, the leaves were shortened and the head of Narcissus cyclamineus was nipped off but not eaten.  I suspect deer or rabbit.

At last some sunshine in SW Scotland and the crocuses have opened fully.  Our garden was part of an old Victorian property and I think these crocuses have been here for a long time.  I'm not a crocus expert - could someone help to identify them please?  There is tremendous variation in colour and veining. Such a pleasure!

I have seen a similar selection in the Victorian Cemetery in Norwich.  I think that they are all forms derived from Crocus vernus, probably whatever was in commerce at the time of planting.  Almost all are very beautiful.  In Norwich they meet Crocus tommasinianus in the cemetery and many attractive hybrids are found.

Now some of Crocus chrysanthus seedlings. As I wrote earlier - my stock of cv. 'Sunspot' turned virus infected - so I was resowing it. On first picture - self-pollinated.
On the second is pictured selection where as pollen parent was used chrysanthus with black anthers (not C. muglaensis, but wild found individual collected near Akseki) - as you can see - finally succeed to join in one flower black stigma and anthers, but still improvement is needed
The third is one of my favourites, found wild near Akseki. I suppose natural hybrid between "chrysanthus" and "biflorus". Parents grow together and seem freely hybridizing. Really single locality where I observed this in wild.
And after that two another hybrids - one found by me near Akseki, another (with double flower - not usually) by Pasche(?) and Dirk.

Pity, flowering here allways is after other countries, so not easy to compare. We here had snowing all night, but yesterday was nice half swun/ half clouds - so some common views of collection in full bloom. Pictured by Liga. Today is cold but tomorrow broadcasted even + 12 C.

I never saw Crocus sieberi in flowers on Crete, but Australian nurseryman Marcus Harvey (now he is seriously ill) sent me good number of seeds what he collected on Omalos plain. Last year they started to bloom and I was schocked for huge size of flowers. Today I pictured one of seedlings with open flower and attached ruler showing diameter of open flower 8 cm. Larger than Dutch cultivars of "C. vernus".

The first in this entry is Crocus athous restored in its status last spring when I recollected it on Athos peninsula
Then some of Crocus korolkowii selections - Apricot (from Sjaak de Groot), Dytiscus (E.A. Bowles selection) and the last - my seedling 09-01
And the last picture is of 2 boxes with seedlings of Crocus chrysanthus Sunspot - most are with black stigmas, but size, shape of stigma, colour of petals back varie greatly. I suppose that Sunspot originally was collected at same locality as some of my wild selections from near Akseki because many seedlings looks almost identical with wild forms there. Both hybridise, too.
The box where are hybrids between plants with black stigma and others with black anthers or black connective only start blooming, they were crossed a year later. All parents collected near Akseki where I aspecially looked for such individuals.

In this entry some of Crocus sieberi from Omalos plain seedlings (the first is this white giant). This year one of C. corsicus is of same size, too.
Then Crocus sublimis from Peloponess
and as last - first blooming of some possibly new from biflorus group which was collected as pulchellus in W Turkey - I can't to identify it at present, but it is first blooming of individuals collected in early spring, so they only started recovering from replanting in such time.

To find what is true Crocus biflorus shortly ago I visited Italy. Here picture made  by Filippo Dimatteo catching a moment when I try to select some from millions of flowers
The next is typical C. biflorus in Basilicata, Italy
Then returning to doubles - some double chrysanthus flower.
When I was much younger I saw mixed seeds of so named Crocus chrysanthus cultivars. One of best selections from those is Snow Crystall. When I offered it in catalogue - request was so large, that remained only smallest corms and this spring is the first nice blooming after some interruption.
The last is Crocus balansae - collected in Turkey, between Tavšanly and Inegol

I'm not great "fan" of tommies but this seedling selected by John Grimshaw is fantastic.
Of course here started blooming of mine Carpathian Wonder and blooms
some seedling of it, too.
The last are former "albiflorus". The taxonomy of them changed dramatically but I hadn't time to study properly last papers. Now epithet albiflorus is aplied to that which earlier we named as vernus. Those two are selections from former "albiflorus".

On the first - one of Crocus atrospermus aquisitions. This is from locus classicus, but by HKEP could be wider distributed and really several aquisitions, quite distant but from same region has black seeds (key feature of this species) although by flower looks something different and I even got reclamation from one customer, who supposed that he got wrong plant. Really even on locus classicus are growing side by side two different forms by flower colour - dark - pictured here and light. May be this light must be regarded as another species, but it bloomed for the first time with me only this spring, so I still didn't decide - what it is. There were no intermediates seen in wild. Last spring I revisited locality and saw only last flowers of dark form.
Then two seedlings of Crocus "chrysanthus" from near Akseki - both from my favourites, could be hybrids with some of "biflorus"as - both species are growing side by side.
And last two - Crocus simavensis from simav ridge. Basal rings of that has needle like tooth even longer than 10 mm. Nothing similar was seen between other biflorus.

I have quite many plants with similar colour - blue + yellow. They all were collected wild where near Akseki met "chrysanthus" and "biflorus". They most likely are natural hybrids. How to name them? I don't know. Extreme alternative - to regard them as multicoloured species, but this really isn't the reply. Both are growing together but separated by blooming time, but most likely having same chromosome number they hybridize. See some of my entries this year.
But in your case I suppose that it is seedling from so named "C. chrysanthus cultivars", although I don't know any with so distinct combination of colours.

Roma, from the colour your plant looks like the cultivar chrysanthus 'Advance' http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=5060.msg138221#new (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=5060.msg138221#new)
But it might be a seedling from Advance because the shape of the flowers looks different - I also have a lot of similar looking plants in my lawn, growing around the original Advance plants.

There was a label in the pot but none of us could decipher the exact wording.  When I got home I checked Brian Mathew's book and realised it must be Crocus vernus v. leucorhyncus which is thought to be a variant of vernus subsp. vernus.  Anybody grows this variety?  My first thought was Crocus heuffelianus too, but then C. vernus and heuffelianus are close to each other.

This is my C. heuffelianus Snow Princess, flowering for the first time.  It has more purple than pictures of Snow Princess I have seen, but in future years it may become more typical.

Here started difficult period - sunny days followed by very cold nights. Development of crocuses this season is something strange. Some comes up later than usually. Only today came out C. thirkeanus (herbertii) shoots. C. gargaricus is in full bloom. Usually they flower +/- simultaneously. I was even afraid that I lost my C. thirkeanus. This year almost all C. cvijicii from Greece (deep yellow) are in full bloom, but C. cvijicii from Macedonia (FYROM) with creamy to whitish flowers still not show even noses and the same about white C. jablanicensis (but they are living).
Here started blooming of C. carpetanus. I shortly ago visited Portugal - short visit, only 5 days long (3 days of field work) and there I saw just Crocus carpetanus in full bloom and and by leaves saw clump forming C. clusii with prostrate leaves and individually growing C. salzmannii with erect leaves. So I can show you pictures of C. carpetanus from wild and quite surprising observations.
Typical Crocus carpetanus we saw at typical altitudes - 1150 - 1300 m (by B. Mathew - 1200 - 2300 m). It was growing on granitic soils, under mixed forest of pines and oaks, corms lying shallow in soil. Flowers were plain lilac or white without any striping on segments back. About other population on next entry.

Another crocus, by leaves identified as C. carpetanus, we found in light pinus forest and on lime-stone rocks at altitude only 600 m. Flowers much slender, always with more or less expressed dark stripe on back of segments. Corms positioned deep in soil and sometimes with prominent neck of corm tunics. Looks so different from typical carpetanus, that I'm something confused about naming - may be another new species?

Some nice crocuses from last days
Crocus albocoronatus - quite recently described species
Typical Crocus antalyensis from Saklikent not very far from Antalya
Crocus antalyensis is close to C. mouradii, separable by flower colour and seem that both hybridise. Here hybrid with another affinity - Crocus flavus. But I'm not certain about correct parentage (it is not my hybrid)
Crocus candidus is unique crocus where blooms even plants with one leaf. Quite uniform species - variation on outside of segments and in intensity of yellow shade in throat. This is one of best collected 36 km from Can in W Turkey
For more bright colour - one wild hybrid between "chrysanthus" and "biflorus" from near Akseki, Turkey

The last my entry today.
The first is very unique form of Crocus olivieri found wild by Ibrahim who named it 'Albina'. It was found in locality where only C. olivieri is growing, so no hybridization with C. candidus happened.
Then Crocus orphei from Macedonia in Greece - grown up from seeds originally collected wild by Marcus Harvey from Australia
Another plant grown from Marcus seeds - Crocus sieberi from Omalos plain in Crete
Nice hybrid from Dirk - between veluchensis and cvijicii - named by him as 'Rainbow Gold'
And at very end another novelty from HKEP - Crocus yataganensis

Thanks Kris and Luc.

No Ruben, they don't need cover. They are extremely hardy here and even have survived the bad blackfrost in 2012.
