Would somebody like fresh fruits of this wonderful Fuchsia ? I have few spare fruits on my plant
-
Wow! Can you grow this outside, Nicole? How big is your plant?
-
I keep it in a big pot and I bring it in an almost frost free "plastic tunnel" in winter. Each spring, I cut it back, 1m about from the ground. It's so beautiful ... :D
-
Because it is a fuchsia I did wonder if it was possible to keep the size in check by pruning, but I wasn't sure even though I have heard that it is sometimes used as a subject for bonsai ::) 8)

Yes please, I would love to try it!
-
I would like one too please if you still have one to spare Nicole. But you would have to take the seeds out of the fruit and wash and dry them before sending it. It is a permitted species here so seeds are OK to arrive safely.
-
I have taken out and cleaned all the seeds to avoid any rot. So I can send some seeds to you too :D Your address please in PM ;)
-
Nicole, that's very kind of you. Thanks.
-
I've heard that these fuschia fruits are edible, is that true?
-
No trial... :D I didn't know
-
trial done... not really tasty :-\ hope I'll be well tomorrow ;D
-
Fuchsia fruits are edible - at least some of them. The fruits on my plants (magellanica riccartonii) taste very good!
-
Hi I have some fruit on my lady boothby plants, I think I'll leave them there.
-
You can make jam with them.
-
I wonder what that's like
-
The jam should be OK I imagine. With sugar and perhaps some lemon juice it would be quite tasty. Most of the large flowered showy kinds have big almost cubic black fruits and these are very edible. maybe a bit bland for regular eating but if you were starving in the south American rain forest.......
-
....... You'd eat anything & hope it doesn't make you I'll or something worse.
-
I've eaten quite a lot of fuchsia fruits of various kinds - I'm fine - and yes, I will eat pretty much anything! ;D
-
I suppose people are different the world over, me for instance I wouldn't touch Sharon fruit, tasteless things they are, but if it ment eating those or staving to death I'd force them down :)
-
Merci bien Nicole :)
-
Lovely healthy young plants, Ashley - I do love a "cute baby " picture. They are so full of hope.
-
Well done Ashley ;) I'm so glad :D
-
Thanks Maggi and Nicole.
They're lovely little plants and starting to grow quickly now, so may even flower before the end of the summer if all goes well.
It's always such a pleasure to grow new things from seed.
-
Lovely to see the little fuchsias up Ashley and Nicole. Mine have just started to germinate after a few days of wet and warm. Today is wet and cold. Winter on its way.

What! I can only assume that you are buying them from the major s/markets? They should taste like an extra sweet chestnut that is very juicy.
I buy mine from the local market or Lidl. Only buy the ones that are soft to the touch (not as hard as cricket balls) and even then give them a day or two on top of some bananas. Much like a properly ripe mango they are best eaten in the shower at this stage but oh so lovely!
