Paddy, you'd have to catch me - and I'm faster than I look - but  we're always happy to co-operate and help plant-loving friends in other societies.

Those nice Irish folks are on Twitter too : https://twitter.com/igpstweets

Oho! there is a different type of IGPS "event" to announce - of a personal nature - Paddy and Mary Tobin are celebrating the arrival of another grandchild - little Anna  :)

Paddy writes :" I am not thinking of gardens or flowers these days. Here I am with our new granddaughter, Anna, born on Wednesday. Paddy"

The delightful photo is here :

Fond congratulations to Paddy & Mary and the proud parents on the arrival of beautiful Anna - the newest member of a lovely family of great gardeners!

IGPS Lecture & Members' Plant Sale - Tue 4th Nov @ 8pm in SMA Hall, Wilton, Cork.

“The Weird & Wonderful World of a Plantaholic” by Deborah Begley of Terra Nova Gardens.(The Irish Terra Nova rather than the American one!  http://www.terranovaplants.com/ (http://www.terranovaplants.com/)  )

Passionate gardener and long time IGPS member, Deborah Begley, takes us on a magical tour of her 20 year old, half acre garden, on the Limerick Cork border. Showing what can be achieved despite being on heavy soil in an inland frost pocket, Deborah and her husband Martin have transformed a former field into one of Ireland’s most enchanting gardens, brimming with creativity, beautiful and unusual plants, and surprises around every corner.

If you have a couple of beautiful, interesting or unusual plants looking for new homes, label them and bring them along to our next lecture and we’ll sell them at the end to help raise a bit of money for the Munster branch of the IGPS.

Along with a great lecture and fun plant sale, we’ll also have our plant raffle, making it a evening with variety and fun, and one not to be missed.

All Welcome!!!

Really nice to see Deborah and Martin having visited their lovely garden quite a few years ago and being so warmly welcomed. There are some great gardens and gardeners in Ireland and it will be nice to learn more from the new website.

Now you did just the right thing in mentioning the beauty of Irish Gardens, Tim!
It just so happens there is a book coming out which looks to be a "goodie" - IGPS says :
"Coming in April next so this is a sneak preview. "The Irish Garden" by Jane Powers, a book for all lovers of Irish gardens. It is being published by Frances Lincoln Publishers so book your copy now. I'm not sure if this is possible but take note of it anyway and watch out for the publishing date."

This is a photo from the proof of the book - shown by courtesy of Jane Powers -  on the IGPS facebook page

Maggi - this is definitely a book for me! Irish gardens are a whole new world that I've seen just a little of but enough to cause some excitement. The gardening community in Ireland is small enough - perhaps like Scotland - to quickly feel part of when you visit there. I notice Jane Powers has a comment in 'The Garden' this month...

Thanks, Tim - glad to be useful!

I look forward to seeing what is in The Garden - it arrived today but it's still in its plastic bag so far. :-X
