Can anyone advise me about which email host I could use, preferably (but not necessarily) free, which will allow me to send 500 emails at once? My hotmail account no longer allows this and I want to be able to send my mail order list out to everyone at the same time for fairness.

The pigeons are just not up to it. :-\

Anne you can try http://www.rapidmail.com/, (http://www.rapidmail.com/,) i use their service at work, interface is quiet easy to use and rates are good.
-
How about GMail (Google)? Don't know what they permit but they are pretty good.
-
Thank you both. I will look into those.

You could set up a mail list. Some providers offer them for free. Freelists (an example, but limited to technology).

Hi Anne,
Mailchip provides a free mailout to up to 2000 addresses. Facilitates campaigns, provides logistics and performance statistics and much more! Way to go if you are running a small business.

I think Marcus means MAILCHIMP .........

I may need to look into those as well. I created a gmail account today. When I imported my emails they disappeared from my hotmail account so I was unable to search efficiently. Spent the rest of the day figuring out how to copy them back! The pigeons are moving up the leader board again. ::)

Yeah, sorry Anne, Maggi is correct, I meant MAÌLCHIMP!
Such are the joys of using swype keys on my tablet.
Seriously Anne this is a great service. You can set up and design interesting, eye catching mailouts. You can track its performance (how many opens and how many clicks). You can track where there is most interest, even down to an individual IP. The service will provide useful statistics, comparing campaign performance over time, between each other and to the industry. It also has services linked to social media but I don't go that far myself.
Another big plus is that MAILCHIMP provides speedy support despite you not paying a cent for the service.

So how do they earn their money? Advertising?
-
They charge once you get over 2000. So its in their interest to get you to grow.

Thanks, Marcus, I'll do some more investigating when I have a bit more time.

I've used Mailchimp for some political mailing here in NJ. We send out invites and announcements for campaign events.

Maybe this will be of some help
