Title: G. nivalis 'Verdure'
Post by: Matt Bishop on July 31, 2014, 03:03:22 PM
Dear All,

Just a quick message from Alan Street at Avon Bulbs to anyone who has ordered G. nivalis 'Verdure'. The name is already in use for a green-leaved clone of this species which we found in Normandy and distributed at The Garden House Snowdrop Study Day in 2012, albeit in small numbers. Alan will provide a new name for the clone with a diffuse inner segment marking and green apical outer segment marks. Profuse apologies!

Ok thanks Matt. I did buy the original Verdure from you and just assumed Avon's was the same. Eternal vigilance etc. Incidentally having just acquired Quatrefoil from you I will have to rename my own plant with that name - happily not distributed anywhere else.

Message from Avon bulbs :-

We would like to advise you that unfortunately we have had to re-name the snowdrop ‘Verdure’ as the name is already in use for a green-leaved clone of this species which was found in Normandy and distributed at the Garden House Snowdrop Study day in 2012.

This snowdrop is as described in our email,  ‘Nivalis, from Normandy, an enchanting green tip with pale green washed inner marking’, and has been re-named  ‘Verdigris’.

We apologise for this error.

Verdure

Still a few verd...s left, I think, although I cannot be sure that none of the others remain unused.  And has Verdi yet been added to the 'composers' series?

Hello All,
Just popped onto the forum to see what's happening in snowdrop world and found myself smiling at all the dry wit on here!  You are funny Alan  ;)

I lifted a lattice pot today to donate a few Fieldgate Prelude to a friend.  Was amazed that one bulb had turned into 22 bulbs.....but they all looked staggy  :'(    So the question is....can you soak the dormant bulbs in fungicide right now?  I have only ever soaked them when they are in growth.

Its comforting to see familiar names and faces again.
