SPECIAL OPEN GARDEN DAY - 6th September 2014
Ron & Susan McBeath invite all to their annual Open Garden Day on Saturday 6 September at their home, formerly known as Lamberton Nursery near Berwick TD15 1XB
Open from 9 am to 4 pm, this is a unique opportunity to explore their stunning garden, refreshments available.
Also present will be Pottertons Nursery and Macplants offering an extensive selection of alpines and bulbs for sale
A talk “Plants for the Autumn Garden” will be given by Gavin McNaughton, starting 2 pm, in the village hall.
No.3 Lamberton, Berwickshire ,TD15 1XB Scotland
Lamberton is only one hour from Edinburgh and only a little more from Newcastle upon Tyne. The nursery is in the very south east corner of Scotland, close to the A1. If travelling south on the A1 take the second exit for Lamberton which is on the dual carriageway, cross the road bridge and the nursery is up the narrow road almost dead ahead. If travelling north follow the signs for Lamberton immediately after entering Scotland.

As this event is less than a week away I thought I would share with you a few memories of our visit to last year's open day. Lamberton Nursery was a place I always wanted to visit, but I never got there before it closed. When I saw the Open Day advertised in the Rock Garden last summer it was an easy decision, and we headed off for a horticultural weekend trip to Scotland which included a visit with Ian and Maggi in Aberdeen, the Open Day in Lamberton, and two days in 'the Botanics' in Edinburgh.
The open day was magical, characterised as it was by a fine mixture of warm hospitality, interesting conversations, exciting rock gardening, - and good weather. It is a beautiful spot; the first picture was taken at a quiet moment in an otherwise busy garden, I believe as people were gathering in the village hall for Rob Potterton's interesting talk. The second picture is of Barbara enjoying a late season sniff of a large Daphne cneorum. The third picture is of a tangible memory of our visit, a Paeonia cambessidesii we bought from Ron and which bloomed nicely early April this year. On Ron's advice I keep it in a pot, and it overwinters in the basement. The last picture is not from Lamberton, but has a strong Mcbeath connection. It is from our visit to RBGE and shows the new and old alpine houses. The old alpine house is a classic beyond liking, but we liked the new one with its exciting content, immediate surroundings, and the structure, 'made in Scotland - from girders'.
If you are heading for Lamberton in a week's time, you are in for a real treat.

Thanks to ALL who attended the event at Ron & Susan's yesterday together with the nurseries of Gavin & Beryl MacNaaughton and myself Rob Potterton; we thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with you again making a really memorable occasion. Brilliant sunshine in the morning accompanied a plentiful supply of gorgeous bacon butties and Gavin's talk in the afternoon was well received by a full house. Apologies for lack of photos - it was a busy day. ;D

No surprise that it was a fun day for all concerned, Rob - how would it be otherwise with such a "cast" of stars ? ;D
A bit of luck to have good weather, that's for sure and will have made the day all the more pleasant.

It was a super day. Thanks so much everyone. Took a long time member with me but she's not able to come to many SRGC events for one reason or another. Think we got her talked into doing a box of seed packeting too! Rons done such a lot of work on his garden now he's got a bit more time to spend on it, it was looking wonderful in the warm morning sun too! Ian B's BBQ bacon butties were scrumptious too. Thanks too to Susan our gracious hostess, what a lovely time! Bought a few bulbs and plants too, retail therapy .....
