Oh Sandy, please record Olga's talks for posterity … it might be the only chance some of us have to see her … and we will be in Canada, lecturing to some other unfortunate souls. :'( :D
-
Hotel is booked we looking forward to it, always do. Just hope tighter visa sanctions being talked about against Russia don't interfere with Olga getting over here.
-
I was wondering that today Shelagh, guess we'll have to wait and see...
-
We have arranged to come up to Dunblane but will only have the Saturday late afternoon/evening and Sunday morning to visit gardens. The Botanics is a must (will stop there on the way back) and would like to go to Branklyn. Any other suggestions? We have to get back by Monday because our daughter is running a half marathon near Canterbury.
-
You'll have a great trip, Tim, with the Dunblane event the jewel in the crown. Have fun!
Disappointingly, I can't now make it because my travel budget is dwindling and I need to keep some in reserve to get to Grantown for the Discussion Weekend. Will look forward to lots of feedback here on the Forum.
-
Can you tell me what nurseries will be attending Dunbane on the 23rd please.
-
Sorry, Derek, I don't know - will try to find out from Sandy. A guess would be Rumbling Bridge, Kevock, MacPlants and Ardfearn for a start........
-
Thanks Maggi, I'll try get along and see what plants are available.
-
I know hartside is coming. Unfortunately I will miss the event as it's addies highlight of the year with the Harley Davidson rally at aviemore. He has to go to most of the rocker's events so I will have to go along with him.

I know for sure that Olga has her visa and flight tickets. I can not see that any political situation in Ukraine would cancel normal Russian citizens right to use their visas for Europe. And Olga would not cancel for anything, she is a tough woman. Right now she is even learning to use Powerpoint to make as nice talks as possible.
A little hint to the people responsible for the meeting; please make sure that you have a lot of cakes. Cakes and icecream are Olga´s weak points. Very weak. OK, mine too, I have to admit. And Scottish cakes are very good!

Escape from the poor deserts offered at the hotel in Tabor
-
Susann the supply of cakes just kept on coming last year so I don't think you need to worry.
-
Oh, I am sure I will be satisfied, and Olga, too. I saw-and tasted-all the good cakes and cookies in Perth. As good and variable as the showbench itself.

the Kazakh grocery stores where not too bad either ( I did not buy anything!)
-
Olga Bondareva, our esteemed speaker for the Summer Event this Saturday in Dunblane, along with Susann Nilson, are safely arrived in Scotland and spent today the the RBGE - this evening they are staying with Ian and Ann - the Christies kind !

We've heard how Olga like a tasty dessert ...... Ann Christie went to town on this one....

Luckily for the others, Olga decided to share ....

Olga will have a busy day on Saturday so she needs to keep her strength up!
-
Thoroughly enjoyed my day yesterday! Olga's talks were illuminating and took me to places I've never seen before. The exhibition hall was full of interesting plants too, here is a tropeolum brought in by Steve along with information about it. Lovely selection of alstroemerias, gentians, heathers and streptocarpus too. But didn't get pics of many, not enough time...
-
As you can see, not only Chris enjoyed the talks by Olga, the whole public was very enthusiastic!
[attachimg=1]
If possible, Olga and I got even more enthusiastic when we found out that Scottish hotels not only provide free soap and schampoo, but also a wide range of choice plants!
[attachimg=2]
Finally, I just would like to ad a picture to try to stop the wild rumor circulating that our stay in Scotland was nothing but an odyssé in puddings; we did have healthy food as well. Please, see the proof below.

To all friends I met and all new friends I made during the day I would like to say thank you for chats, advices, share of knowledge and a very very good time that would have been impossible without you.
-
It looks like a wonderful event … so sorry to have missed it. Safe journeys to the well-travelled visitors.
-
We happened to stop off at Dunbar on the way up, the birthplace of John Muir, and I do believe that great traveller would have been in his element listening to Olga's talks. A great day and thanks to the SRGC for organising such an exciting and inviting an event and to Olga for her charming and enlightening talks. It's a curious thing but Gillian and I also found several boxes of plants in our hotel room, courtesy of Edrom, Hartside and Rumbling Bridge ...
-
Didn't see you there Tim, sorry I missed you.
-
great ;D
I would like to have been there
-
Like everyone has said it was a great day and Olga talks were so interesting it kept us all wide awake. I don't think anyone was cat napping. Well, done olga your English is perfect.
Sorry never got to talk to everyone, the day went past so quick.
Angie :)

It was unforgettable.
Can I express the warm feeling inside?
So much experience was shared, so many plants was seen, so interesting talks were spoken, so many words of encourage were told to me! I am so grateful to the Club and our hosts for those 7 days of Scotland. I’ve got a sense of the country. It’s the most important thing.

English is still spoken in my head. :)
And looking at pictures makes possible to feel myself in Scotland again.
It’s cold here now and I really need kilt socks and hot-water bottle to bed. And I haven’t explored those black mountains.
And by the way do you know what Susann likes most of all? ;)
Cast sparrow from Botanical Garden is very natural. My cat tried to chase after it and was very much confused. :)

My warmest greetings to all I met in Scotland!
-
Hm, you got me, Olga. I confess. Mentha icecream! Thank you Annielle and Cyril for introducing me to that Vienetta flavour. I wish it excisted in Sweden.
-
;D ;D - I didn't know the mint Vienetta existed here, either, Susann! Will be looking for it now :)
-
Tim has written in his AGS diary ....... http://www.alpinegardensociety.net/diaries/Kent/+August+/611/ (http://www.alpinegardensociety.net/diaries/Kent/+August+/611/)
-
Very nice account. Reminds me I must take time to pop up to Edrom again, it's not too far from here either...
-
A reminder that Sandy Leven's Show and event reports can be found in the main site : HERE (http://www.srgc.net/site/index.php/shows/sample-menu) -most 2014reports are there now.
Sandy's latest report is on the SRGC Summer Event in Dunblane and has just been loaded to the site:
http://files.srgc.net/Showreports/SRGCSummerevent2014.pdf (http://files.srgc.net/Showreports/SRGCSummerevent2014.pdf)
You will see that Sandy mentions a hope that Olga can be asked to write for the Journal - I would remind everyone that Olga has already made several contributions to the International Rock Gardener e-magazine, including an excellent article on one of her subjects at the
SRGC Summer Day - Daphne juliae- in the IRG of May2010 : http://www.srgc.org.uk/logs/logdir/2010May271274998232IRG_5_May.pdf (http://www.srgc.org.uk/logs/logdir/2010May271274998232IRG_5_May.pdf)

I've added a detailed description of Olga's talks at the Summer Event last August to the 'Articles' page on our nursery website, see:
www.coptonash.plus.com (http://www.coptonash.plus.com)
Thanks again to all those involved in organising the event and to Olga for her wonderful and illuminating talks.
