Post by: johnstephen29 on July 05, 2014, 09:10:03 PM
My dahlias are really taking off now, here are some flowers that caught my eye. Sorry about the photos i'm having trouble with them at the moment.

You must be having better weather than us - I'm not seeing Dahlias that far advanced up here. Only some buds on most I see.

It's not been to bad lately down here Maggi, though we had had some heavy downpours, they seem to have stopped just at the right. I've managed to get the pics sorted at long last.  :)

Another dahlia in flower, this time dahlia Luka johanna. This variety & dahlia giraffe I purchased from a nursery in Pickering in the north riding of Yorkshire a couple of years ago, it's really doing well this year.

It's a bit far north from me for it to be a regular trip but, yes, I've bought plants from there in the past (good range of fruit trees). I see from the website that they've now expanded their range of South African bulbs, quite expensive! I believe Rupert Bowlby gave his stock to RV Roger when he retired and closed his bulb nursery.

Yes with some plants they sell it can be costly, me and the family regularly go up that way for walks or visit the coast so I pop in. What I really like about the nursery is the big range they sell, they had about 15 different species of colchicum on sale this autumn.

Dahlia 'Twyning's After Eight'.  Worth growing for the foliage alone.

Hi Rome your dahlias are looking great, I know what you mean about the foliage on your dahlia, I grow bishop of llandaff which has dark foliage and lovely red flowers, great combination.

Maggi - never worry about that - money spent on plants is never wasted

I bought another petrol bush cutter this week as I have not got time to take the other two down for servicing...............I just need to hide the big box somewhere

Hmm, if you've got a wife then I hope you don't  try to hide that box in the same place as your wife hides her shoe boxes........ ;)

(not that I'm speaking from experience, or anything like that....... you understand  ;D ;)     )
