Kurt Vickery's new Monocot Bulb list is attached - enjoy!

Kurt has a new seedlist out - be quick- some items are in short supply - he will give updates if you contact him.
N. B. both the following links contain exactly the same list of seeds - it is simply a question of which file format you prefer to open - no need to open them both.

[attachurl=2] as a pdf

Thank you for uploading the latest list, Maggi :)
I'd like to order some seed to him but I cannot find his e-mail address.
Do I have to make a contact with him by postal mail at the first time ordering?
-
It is on the 2014 seedlist in the link bleow on this thread. J
-
Thank you, Janette :)
-
Kurt sometimes even forgets to add his postal address! His email is kvickery67ATbtinternet.com - replacing the AT with @
-
Thank you, Maggi :) I send him my order later.

Does anybody know what the final item on Kurt's list is? "KZ150 Syreitschukovia spinulosa W Tien shan, Sairamsu". The genus is not found on Google.

I asked Kurt - he has no idea other than it is a dicot. Makes me wonder if it's worth trying it just to find out!
-
That's my reaction too! Will have to put my investigators hat back on.

Where would you start if there are no google results. :D. The Plant list maybe, but then that would come up in the google results.
Suppose you would have to grow it to find out anything.
-
I'm a trained investigator, Lewis. I'll report back if I find anything.

You can find it on IPNI, family of the Asteraceae, Serratula spinulosa

Fancy that - thanks Wim - how do you know it is the same plant? There do not seem to be notes of synonymy anywhere?

Syreitschikovia spinulosa

I think the spelling should be Syreitschikovia spinulosa which is in the plant list http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl1.1/record/gcc-137556 (http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl1.1/record/gcc-137556)
a google image search gives
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=syreitschikovia+spinulosa&num=100&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAWoVChMI1-_Cjc2GyQIVgkOQCh2hvA-k&biw=1366&bih=643 (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=syreitschikovia+spinulosa&num=100&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAWoVChMI1-_Cjc2GyQIVgkOQCh2hvA-k&biw=1366&bih=643)
W tien shan is the Tien Shan Mountain Range

and Sairamsu is Sairam Su Valley

and on day 11 and 12 in this report

but I can't find it on a map

Crikey- it's a thistle!
-
Well done Neil, got there before me!
-
It's in The Plant Book (Mabberley) as well.
-
What a clever lot you are - I'd never have managed to manipulate the spelling enough to get the answer! You fellows rock! ;D

All I did is put the name in theplanlist.org search and delete the last letter one at a time, it comes up with suggestions once you get back to the beginning of a correct name . Then you can normally see what the name should be comparing to what you have too start with.
-
Great tip, Neil, thanks!!
-
Most probably named for Russian botanist Nikolai Vasiliev Pavlov Syreitschikov (1893-1973).

Mmmm.
