A nice little collection, but I cannot see what it has to do with Galanthus krasnovii.
You might want to extend your snowdrop season by getting some that flower in the autumn or midwinter. Of the cultivars, I would recommend G. elwesii Peter Gatehouse, which generally starts flowering in November.
Very very few snowdrops are identifiable just from the flower, and in a picture of the flower you lose any sense of size. What are the leaves of your mystery snowdrop like? Is it in flower now?
-
also i have this drop, but i dont know what it is! the seller thought it might be sophie north but it dosent look like it to me?
This is the snowdrop that was being sold on ebay in March 2007 - there was some discussion about it on this Forum, at the time, but all that could be agreed was that it was not 'Sophie North'.
-
depends what the leaves are like. Do you know it is a plicatus?
-
Rob plicatus leaves are very obvious with a fold on each side
-
I have krasnovii but am now looking for species like koenenianus or true platyphyllus to tempt me.
-
The value doesnt work Rob. Would someone swap a Mini for a sports car?
-
G. krasnovii is worth £60 - £100
-
Yep and I didnt notice.
-
Janis Ruksans was offering g. krasnovii for sale in 2006 at 100 euro's per bulb.

how can i contact janis ruksans?
janis.bulb@hawk.lv
Has anyone received his 2008 catalogue ?

Rob you are dipping your toes in to a very addictive and expensive world.
You really need to see his catalogue so send your 5 dollars or euro tomorrow. I have offered to make him a web site to show his flower photos so time will tell. His is interested. It will be along the same lines as my marksgardenplants
Rob there are many 19 year olds in to Galanthus and other bulbs. I suggest you attend either the Esat Lambrook day or the Gala. Both are probably full by now
Where in England are you? You could fly in for the day for our snowdrop day on Feb 16th
-
It moves around the country. This year it's in Dorset or is it Devon? East Lambrook Manor is in Somerset. If you have a car and dont mind a big hike to Shrewsbury Margaret Owen's MS day is excellent - depending on the weather. Most year's there is either hard frost or snow. There is a snowdrop day in Essex, 100 tickets only. I'll find out if they are gone already
-
Rob,
Anglesey Abbey is in Cambridgeshire. I used to play football right next to the grounds. I was a lot younger in those days but still go past it to play most Sundays.
-
I cant tell you yet because it may be invite only

He didn't have anything as special as that in his 2007 catalogue.

You kept them in a pot Mark? Did you manage to rescue them or have they gone west?
-
Rob
Janis Ruksans will email his list (not the colour catalogue) for free. So if you know what you want it saves the 5 euros. Might be best to do this in the summer though when the new list comes out
-
Janis offers a rarity and then needs time to grow enough to offer it again.
G. koenenianus - 80 Euros in 2003 and 60 in 2004.
Whoever borrowed my 2005 catalogue didn't return it, so I don't know
what happened that year.
-
As far as I know, he issues only one bulb catalogue. He was also issuing
a Narcissus one, but I don't know whether he still does.
Orders need to be in before August 1.
He has to restrict how many plants he lists. As he wrote in the 2004
catalogue, his bulb packing shed is set up for 530 items. In 2003, he
listed 682, and it was a "packing nightmare".
However, he grows well over 4000. It means that every year there
is something new to look forward to.
