Title: Orchis mascula site 2014
Post by: fredg on April 29, 2014, 06:08:06 PM
I didn't post this site last year so here we go. Not my usual splurge of photos, they're all purple so not so much variety.

Hi Fred,

these are amazing spikes. I've not seen any as tall as this in the wild, they usually come in clusters at the top of a chubby stem. What is the soil like there? is it acid? and do the plants get shaded?

Sorry for the delay Maren. I'll be revisiting the site for the Dactylorhiza flowering soon and will get an accurate pH test done then.
The site is a large managed clearing in woodland and the largest spikes are not shaded.
