I've received a letter to say The Snowdrop Company is to cease trading... :(
-
I don't think 'The Snowdrop Company' ever really was a company, just the trading name of Dr Ronald MacKenzie. If he wishes to retire from selling snowdrops then so be it. I'm sure there are up-and-coming new snowdrop vendors waiting in the wings.

Alan, a bit of a rabbit trail, but your mention of Dr. Ronald Mackenzie brought to mind a question. Do you or any other colleagues here know what supplier or specialist is propagating the yellow drop with his namesake, G.'Ronald Mackenzie'?
-
I don't begrudge him a quieter retirement, it must be quite a hassle, merely expressing surprise. I've had some nice snowdrops from him over the years.
-
Yes, I'm sure he has built-up a loyal following of customers who will be equally disappointed.

It is his baby and he was propagating and selling it. :(

Thank you Mr. Grumpy. I am a true newbie but have been bitten by the bug. I had recently stumbled across G. 'Ronald Mackenzie' in my reading and was happy to also find this 2010 u-tube featuring Dr. Mackenzie in which he actually introduces it. It is short and well worth the viewing if you have not yet seen it. Cheers!

I raise no snowdrops except for nivalis and the flora-plena form of it, but was very interested in this short video.
Can anyone (I'm sure many of you can) identify for me two of the varieties shown?
Firstly the very last one shown with the beautiful swirl of the inner petals and the six uniform outer petals.
Secondly the one with the bold splash of green on the outer segments appearing at the 1.00 minute point and again at 2.58 mark.
These two I could really love
That is of course if I could even find a source for them. LOL
TIA
George

George - The first might be elwesii 'Godfrey Owen', the second one with the wild outer mark is likely 'South Hayes'. Good taste there, large wallet? Careful you are being drawn into a vortex..........

I think John is correct on both counts, hard to not recognise 'Godfrey Owen' and 'South Hayes', you have good taste - they are outstanding snowdrops ;)
