Does anyone know the name of Fergus Garrett's predesessors as Head Gardener At Great Dixter please? Have done a google search but couldn't find anything.

Fergus has been there a long time.

I think the relationship between Fergus and Christopher Lloyd was really unique and you could say that before Fergus, Christo was the Head gardener! Joking aside, I don't remember though we went to Dixter from way back before Fergus joined the garden. Some of Christopher Lloyd's long term friends like Graham Gough and Kemal Mehdi (who used to lecture at Hadlow and lived near to Dixter) would surely know.

Yes, Christo was always the real head gardener while the garden was his, that's for sure but today I met someone who told me their new friends dad was head gardener at Great Dixter so I thought I'd look it up but I've drawn a blank...

A quick flick through 'The Adventurous Gardener' and I found the name Romke. I don't remember his surname but I think he may have been Dutch.

How about asking the person you met the name of their new friends dad?

Aha yes of course I could but I'm being a bit nosy... Any way I googled Romke and got Romke van de Kaa and also that Tom Moffatt was leaving before him so I've got it now. Thanks Roma et al...
