Title: Happy birthday to.....2014
Post by: Lesley Cox on March 10, 2014, 09:05:52 PM
I hesitate to add this note to the thread celebrating the birthday of the Most Important Person on the Forum so because I really can't cope with Facebook, I'm starting a new thread as I'd like to thank those who have posted there, for their birthday greetings. Thanks so much ladies. ;D I have a Facebook account but whenever I reply to something or wish to post something, I type it in and then can find no place anywhere on the screen, to Send or Attach or whatever. It never goes any further and disappears into the ether. So I've just about given up.

21 yes Shelagh (oh darn, I forgot, there's another 50 in there somewhere I think.)

And many thanks too, to the other Forumists - you know who you are - who have sent the charming Jacquie Lawson cards. These are always a delight and stored now in a separate place for re-playing when I'm feeling down. Thanks a million.

Thank you Maggi. Well, no, there's NO cake. A self-inflicted deprivation as I made me a promise that before surgery I would lose some more weight. Since the surgery is now on the horizon, I need to stop fluffing about and get on with it. :( Thought I might find something nice at the supermarket today, in the Weightwatchers isle. ::)

I applaud your no cake stance - taken for the best if reasons -  a reward of some yummy fruit instead, then......  :D

Many thanks everyone and kindest regards to all. Yes, Maggi, lots of fruit. We're surrounded by apricots still - even a few late cherries - and masses of peaches, plums, nectarines and new pears and apples already. My birthday tea consisted of a salad and a small piece of salmon followed by 2 nectarines. I enjoyed every bite and haven't missed anything else.  :) Roger's also losing weight and seems quite OK with that.

Thanks again folks. :D Best birthday present? A load of horticultural sand. :) Who needs Paris in the springtime?

Golly, there are lots of birthdays in March, a good month obviously.

Ian, there will definitely be cake somewhere during your trip. A few years back I made a syrup cake and took it up the Old Man Range for lunch when you were here with Billy Carruthers. He at least thought it was pretty good and when offered a second round said "What took you so long." It's a coconut, spongey type of cake with an orange juice syrup poured over as it come from the oven. Rather sticky to handle but Sooooo delicious. :P

Lesley - this is my springtime present for the nursery here, a new line of frames. As far as I am concerned better than Paris in the springtime, though I wouldn't mind another visit to the Czech Republic! And it would be nice to invite a few Parisians to the garden this spring. Wonderful sounding cake to add to a few of the earlier recipes!

That is wonderful Tim and just what I need here. For now, everything is in the open and winter is creeping ever nearer. The main problem last winter wasn't cold especially but leaf fall and some very heavy rain because my little nursery is more than half under deciduous trees which has been a great help until now giving much needed shade but as the leaves are falling, picking them up is a daily task and rain falling through trees (3 large red-leaved Prumus) seems to batter and flatten the soil as rain direcvt from the sky does not. It's drips I suppose.

Is now a good time to send the Hypericum and Richea?

I'll put the syrup cake in the Cooks' Corner. I may have already done so. :-\

It's Hjalmar's birthday today - but I'm sure he won't mind if I give pride of place to our elder statesman in Vienna, Franz Hadacek - Franz is 81 years young and we wish him many happy returns of the day!  :-*

So many Forumists - so many birthdays - I'm sure that we all wish the very best to each and every one - four have their birthdays today - Jane R.,  Neil E., Henk W. and Thomas B.  - but we must not miss out today's oldest "birthday" celebrant  on July 4th - the United States of America!

Not sure that this will be enough for everyone - but it is at least a feast for the eyes!
Happy Birthday!!
