Title: Rhododendron ID ?

Does anyone know what this Rhododendron called?
the name is unfortunately away.

Post by: Maggi Young on January 27, 2014, 02:03:23 PM: The likes of 'Nancy Evans' and 'Macarena' are a similar colour and have larger calyces than normal, the same colour as the flowers, but not giving this exaggerated hose in hose look.

Perhaps a possibility, though it shows a stronger colour in the nursery photo .... searching the net for more photos many are paler.

Can you tell us how tall and wide it is after how many years.

I sent the picture to Harold Greer and Jens Birck, neither recognize it as a named commercial hybrid.

Harold said the closest is 'Elya' but he was sure it was not that one.

It is a seedling. 1.15 m high, 1 m wide, 20 years.
I am sure it is the seed from the Danish Rhododendron Society.

My suggestion now would be to go through your old Danish Chapter seed lists from around the time you think you may have acquired the seed. Perhaps you put check marks next to the crosses your ordered. We could go from there but it will only be conjecture I'm afraid.

Unfortunately I am very weak at Rhododendron ID. #2 looks very interesting to me. I look forward to see what answers you get.

The farm season is here big time! Much work and long hours. Our elepidote rhododendron bloom season is just about over for most of the species. We will have deciduous Azaleas blooming until early September.
