Yesterday my family and i visited the botanical garden in Munich. I took my camera with me and thought that i could share this little journey with you. I am very sorry that there were not much rock-garden plants at this time of the year so the most photos i made are from inside the greenhouses of mediterainian or tropical plants. But despite the following plants are no rock-garden plants i hope you will like and enjoy them. :D
The first two pictures show the plan of the complete area and the greenhouses, i will post the rest of the photos following.

A fine series Simon 8)
Besides showing many beautiful plants your pictures evoke the warmth and rich smells of tropical greenhouses, so exotic at this time of year. Almost like a Rousseau painting.

Welcome ,Simon!
At this time of year what could be more pleasant than to have a walk in these wonderful glasshouses? Thank you!
I see what Ashley means - one almost expects a large parrot to complete the "painting" - all feels warm and verdant.

I enjoy visiting these places in the winter. The fragrances are like heaven. Here is a photo of Longwood Gardens that I took many years ago. It is just west of Philadelphia, USA. The day that I went there, it was snowing and bitter cold outside. Inside, there were freesias and gardenias blooming. I will never forget the fragrance.

Brilliant set of pictures Simon and many thanks for taking the time and trouble to share them with us.
I wonder if you have ever visited the alpine garden on the Schachen (which is part of the Munich Botanical Garden) and if so have you any pictures please?
-
Good question, David- it is several years since we last saw photos from the Schachen Garden

Hi Simon,
Thanks for posting these lovely pics! It's great to see so many Australian and other Southern Hemisphere plants grown in Germany!
Someone should point out to them that what they have labelled as Narcissus canaliculatus (reply #25) is actually a hoop petticoat daffodil (unless the label is for the pot in front)!
cheers

thanks for this post.
Will take more time to watch the pics closely.
I was lucky enough to do a 10 days work-period there in spring 2011. But lost all the pics I had taken due to computer crash soon after >:( Leitmotiv: always and always make sure the pics are saved twice elsewhere...
That was dumb, the tropical houses are just stunning, really loved the atmosphere, the settings, the way it's made. Some places just make you feel you'd be in the nature.

Thanks for all your warm words ;D
I totally agree some parrots would be a nice addition to the whole Maggie.
And David I have got no photos of the Schachen at the moment, I havent been up there yet but it is on my list maybee in April. I dont think that it its even opend at the moment. Sure I am going to take my camera with me to share some photos ;)
As I havent introduced myselve or my garden and plants yet I am also going to do that this comming spring.
-
Simon, we will look forward to learning more of you and your own garden in the coming months.
- and I believe that the Schachen Garden mostly only comes out from below snow in late May or June.

A nice introduction to a super Botanic Garden. I agree with you Fermi that's it's a pleasure to see some southern hemisphere plants, even a couple of NZers. ;D
