Okay bare with me ......
I've been chating to Pam Cruickshank the lady who since the diamond jubilee has been running the Shaftesbury snowdrop festival in Dorset (I think I posted some pictures of last years events on here some where )
Together we have decided to try and put on a study day on the 15th of Febuary complete with speakers , a snowdrop plant sale and a garden to visit .
This all depends on us being able to find speakers and people willing to come and sell some plants !!!!!!,!!
So as it stands we are emailing and phone in garden lot of people to try and sort something out !
If we manage it I hope people will be tempted to come !
If anyone can help by putting me in touch with people who may be able to do lectures , and who might have a lot of snowdrops to sell now there is no gala PLEASE LET ME KNOW !
We have very little time to sort this , so any and all help is appreciated , the idea is not to compete with the gala , we don't want to step on toes , and if it runs in the future it will be on a non gala day .
Wish us luck

I guess if we don't get any speakers I could show everyone who comes how to make snowdrop hats !
-
Oh lord what have I gotten myself into ! :o ;D ???
-
Lol also I meant bear with me ! I'm not encouraging naked snowdrop events , if people want one organise that your selves
-
I think this is a really good idea. I hope you get lots of support and I think anyone who teases you about your spelling error should be obliged to attend.
-
Thanks Alan . Could have edited it , but can't be bothered ! Besides it is funny . Once we get some details formalised if people could spread the word I'd be much obliged :-*
-
What a super initiative, Emma - I wish you all the best with it. I hope the galanthophiles will rally round to make it a really super event.
-
Sorry, Emma
I'm too far away......
-
Thanks Maggi
If it works the idea would be to move it to a day that wouldn't clash with the Gala , we are only trying to sort it now as the absence of the gala seemed like a good opportunity to get some thing done !
-
Sorry, Emma
I'm too far away......
Never mind , if we get it off the ground I'm sure we will take pictures !
-
Sounds brilliant Emma - I'm in Plymouth on 13/14th so a stop in Shaftesbury on the way back home would be perfect...
-
Good luck with this Emma, a great initiative.
-
Thanks for your suport everyone ! :-* I really must stop worrying about organising the event and go and get so sleep , got a second round job interview to go to tomorrow !
-
Emma
Hope the interview does well.
Not to put a dampener on your efforts, but do you think there will be any snowdrops to see on Feb 15th. This welcome weather - NOT the rain - has meant a lot of mine will have flowered and gone over by end of January. :(
-
Well sadly I cannot control the weather . But what we will have is photos , great speakers ,good company (I hope ) , snowdrops for sale and LOTS OF CAKE
-
... do you think there will be any snowdrops to see on Feb 15th....
We worry about this most every year. Either it's too warm and the snowdrops will be early or it's too cold and the snowdrops will be late. Usually things even out and unless everything is under snow there is always something to see.
-
Alan
This year may be the exception - Russians are forecasting no winter in January and possibly not in February.
-
Job interview went really well ! I might hear by the end of today ! Fingers crossed . The lady owner seemed lovely .
-
Emma, I'm beside myself with excitement . I believe they'd be daft to miss out on you.
A Gardener with Gumption - who could ask for more?
-
I have lurked on the forum for some time and in response to Emma's initiative to organize an alternative Gala I have decided to 'come out' and as I already know many forumists, to join in. As there will be no Gala, I hope to go to Shaftsbury for the Snowdrop Event and would like to attend any extra lectures that can be arranged.
If anyone is considering travelling from the north to this event on Friday 14th February through Worcestershire and would like to visit my garden (Dial Park)I can offer a cup of tea and hopefully some snowdrops.
-
hi Olive! Good to 'see' you on here
-
Job interview went really well ! I might hear by the end of today ! Fingers crossed . The lady owner seemed lovely .
Don't keep us waiting Emma - it's hard to get things done with fingers permanently crossed! Do hope it's good news.
-
Likewise, welcome to the forum, Olive. I had the opportunity to visit your garden a few years ago and anyone with half a chance really should visit. If I take the scenic route south ( i.e. beginning west and north a bit) I should be able to drop in again on 14th February.
I hope Emma's interview bears fruit - but if not then it was not meant to be. Any decent prospective employer should be impressed by her enterprise in taking on this task of organizing a Gala alternative.
-
We don't open until the 8th but I can knock up a simple poster and stick it on the entrance kiosk if it would help? first week is RHS members free so it's usually quite busy.
I'm not working weekends this year other than CGS of course so I will be coming weather permitting, good luck with the job!
-
Thank you all for your kind words about both my interview and gala alternative
I haven't heard yet if I've been lucky or not ! I will let people do when I know one way or another.
I'm just cuffed to have got as far into the interviewing process as I have , what will be will be.
We are thinking of calling our day the Shaftesbury snowdrop collectors day ! I'm so glad people want to come !
If nothing comes of the job that's fine, I've got a snowdrop event to organise !
-
Hello, we are so delighted at the warm support this is receiving - Details as soon as we have everything finalised at this end. Anyone who might want to sell snowdrops please contact Pam at pam@shaftesburysnowdrops.org or myself at emmathick@gmail.com
^ the above is a message from Pam Cruickshank on Facebook , so I thought I'd just put it here incase anyone wants to sell some snowdrops .
Any lurkers please feel free to contact Pam on her email if you want to get involved or if you can think of anyone who might feel able to provide some snowdrops for sale .
Pam and I thank you for your suport
-
Hello Olive - welcome to the Forum :)
-
We have our venue sorted , just confirming our speakers .....don't want to say much more until we have everything sorted, which we hope will be early next week . Then all we need is for lovely people to want to buy a ticket ! :-*
-
You and Pam are doing an excellent job, Emma.
I do hope that all forumists and readers of these pages who might be in the area will make every to support this event.

ps Hi Olive so glad you decided to 'out' yourself. I visited your garden with Angela Whinfield when the Glalanthus Gala was held at Bromsgrove. It was interesting to see your little swarm of 'Trym' seedlings
-
Thanks Mike :-*
-
You're welcome :-*
-
We might have tickets available to buy online by the end of today (maybe tomorrow ) watch this space and I will let you all know .
I'm pleased to be a part of the inaugural Shaftesbury snowdrop study, sale and social day .
They have even got me doing the introductions on the day ! Not something I ever thought myself capable of , so please be gentle
-
Emma, your new event sounds like lots of fun. I wish I were a bit closer, like Hagen. ;D Doing the introductions will be a breeze because everyone is happy to be there and looking forward to a great event. You'll have a ball and do as much and more with great confidence at future events. This will I'm sure, be the first of many.

Yay , thanks Gail :-*
Thanks Maggi for the title change on the thread :-*
-
I would love to come, but we are opening our garden the following day. It would be fascinating to hear about Primrose Warburg's garden from John Grimshaw. What a brilliant event, and what brilliant support from the SRGC and Forum.
-
My goodness Emma that was quick work!!
Did you have a left over 'New Years Eve' rocket to sit on?
-
Just purchased my ticket :)
-
I find the concept of New Year's Eve strange , surely we should be happy for every new day we have .
Glad your have your ticket Mike.
There are a few glitches with the ticket sales at the moment so bear with us , it's going to be sorted ASAP
-
Goodness Emma, you and your mate should be setting up as organizers of huge, international events. Your Snowdrop Event is no sooner though of than speakers and venues arranged, publicity out in the wider domain and tickets on sale, presumably with costings done and details thought out so thoroughly. Other events take months or even years to get off the ground. You have done it all in the quickest time I've ever heard of. Well done and many congratulations. I and all the others who'd like to attend but can't, will look forward to hearing and seeing all about it here, on the Forum. Best wishes for a huge success with your new initiative.
-
Thanks Lesley
We just hope people want to come !
-
Great idea and well done. If I was able I'd be there. Just told Jo Hynes about it
-

Thanks Mark
If people can spread the word that'd be awesome
-
Phew just had a 'orrible thought that Emma's day clashed with the HPS day.
Just checked & it's OK, Emma's Saturday & the HPS is on Sunday......gonna be a busy weekend.
-
No it doesn't clash ! I'm going to be sleeping a lot on the mini bus to HPS day !
-
I only wish I could go to both ::)
-
I only wish I could go to both ::)
The HPS event on Sunday 16th February is about 2.5 hours by car from Shaftesbury where the Emma's event is being held on the previous day. That's quite convenient for anyone who plans to attend both events and can afford the cost of an overnight stop-over somewhere in between.
-
Just bought my ticket Emma, what a great idea and close to home. My garden is open the day before for the National Garden Scheme, ( Cherubeer Gardens , Devon ) Feb 14th so if anyone is visiting the southwest first :D :D :D :D :D
Thanks Mark for sending me the link, I haven't been keeping an eye on the forum yet this year. Too busy in the garden which is very early so far.
-
Thanks Jo , you get a kissy face smiley too :-*
-
People should be able to use their smart phones to buy tickets from the website now , I think that's one glitch fixed . There maybe more , we are all a bit new to this

Also now booked in Emma
Thank you Chas :-*
-
Should give Maggi a shout out for arranging Melyvn's talk to be sponsered by the SRGC , thank you greatly :-* :-* :-*
-
I think we are going to have about 9 different stands selling snowdrops , so should be a good chance to grab that rare bulb you've been after .
-

Sounds terrific, Emma - I know that some who were to have been selling at the Gala would love to have been able to attend the Shaftesbury event but just couldn't because of the distances involved.
I am delighted to be supporting Melvyn's talk on behalf of the SRGC Forum - with the number of galanthophiles ( or 'drop fiends as I prefer to think of them ;) ) frequenting the Forum, it seemed only right to get behind this great idea to make a snowdrop day to cheer folks up after the Gala cancellation. I think the Shaftesbury Snowdrop Day will be great fun and I hope that lots of you will support it. 8)
-
Ordered my ticket this morning, looking froward to it :)

See you there
-
Yay , you get a kissy smiley too :-*
-
Hi everyone of you can spread the word around as much as possible , beginning to worry we won't sell enough tickets to cover our costs .
If anyone can think of other places to spread the word please let me know !
-
It's early days yet, Emma, I'm sure many 'lurkers' only visit the forum from time to time. You need to organise publicity at the events earlier in the season like the Myddleton House sale, the AGS meeting etc. And can you arrange to include a note with anyone sending out a catalogue? I imagine you will have an anxious few weeks then a rush of applications near the date as this second wave of publicity brings in a lot of people who don't read this forum.
-
I would think that there will be a late rush for tickets, Emma- but this forum reaches an enormous number of galanthophiles, with over 1700 reading this thread already - what we need is for all those who talk about wanting to be able to attend such fab events to get involved and actually support this initiative to bring a Gala type event to an open audience.
Come on, 'drop fiends, galvanise yourselves to support a wonderful snowdrop event that has tickets available to anyone who wants one - or three!!
Look at the calibre of the speakers - Andy Byfield, John Grimshaw and Melvyn Jope - a trio who are incidentally all forumists 8) and who are worth a journey to hear as individuals, never mind as part of a super day out.
-
this forum reaches an enormous number of galanthophiles, with over 1700 reading this thread already
Many of us reading this forum are also from other countries, and I for one are green with envy with all the galas and happenings around snowdrops over there. The program and speakers seems great (not to think about all the snowdrops which are on sale) and if I were in the UK, I would surely participate (but don't have the money or time to come from here :().
-
A good point Leena- of course there is a huge international following for the forum - but I would hope there are enough UK readers, and particularly English people, who could attend the event - as Emma asks, it would help if we all do our part to spread the word.
I know Emma is "tweeting" about it - perhaps others of you could do that too- and there is Facebook too- though it looks like the Galanthus page there is not much used but individual s g could still make a mention.......? :)
-
Weve sold 1/6th of the tickets we need to sell to cover cost , which I quess as tickets only went on sale on Wednesday is pretty good ? If they carry on at the rate they are selling we should make it a sold out event .
How have no idea how long most of these things take to sell out .
I guess my very nature makes me a worrier , I worry we won't sell out , I worry our speakers will be talking to an empty hall , I worry about the weather , i worry about worring !
-
Poor Emma, one of the joys of worrying is that it gives you extra hours at night to read some of the books you otherwise wouldn't have time for ;)
-

No it just means I lay awake listening to the mice run round in the walls
-
:D :D :D :D :D
-
It's not (I think) been posted here but I got an email listing the sales tables at this event as:
Ivy Croft Plants, Long Acre Plants, Jenny Homewood, Woodchippings, Matt Bishop, Evolution Plants + more.

This event is looking better all the time, I reckon!

Lol also I meant bear with me ! I'm not encouraging naked snowdrop events , if people want one organise that your selves
Maybe the sales line-ups would be less congested...............I'm feeling like Tubby Merlin already.

Any queues would be more amusing, at least!
-
How are the ticket sales going?
I hope this day is a success for Emma & Pam.
-
Struggling to find details of who's speaking etc although I've looked at the Shaftesbury Snowdrops website. Help please! It's a great idea.
-
Speakers are all forumists! Andy Byfield, John Grimshaw and Melvyn Jope - I'll repeat the poster etc below...

Thanks Maggie - that looks brilliant. Time to look for a B & B
-
sorry ive been a bit quiet, no internet :-\
tickets are selling slow and steady . im not quite panicking about not selling enough to cover our costs just yet :o
Matt told me his own events took 6 weeks to sell out !
its shaping up to be a fun day .
i think weve got 7 or 8 people lined up to sell snowdrops in our sale, Matt Bishop, Avon bulbs ,Woodchippings, Jenny Homewood ,Ivycroft, Evolution Plants + a couple more whos names have escaped me . . We are having some lovely cakes made too :-*
-

-
news just in Joe Sharman is coming to sell snowdrops at this event !
FANTASTIC!!! Couldn't be better - I do think this will be a day not to miss 8) 8) 8)
A perfect alternative for those missing the Gala. ;D
-
they just need to buy the tickets !!!!!!!
-
I'm sure you'll get ticket sales as more people hear about it, Emma. You just need to make sure there is publicity at every other snowdrop event prior to yours. I've promised to take some information along to the AGS Snowdrop day on 1st February and I could also do Roger Harvey's sale on 8th February, if Roger does not mind. Do you have the Blacksmith's Cottage Snowdrop day covered? It's a bit of a cross-country slog for me so I probably won't get to that one but I'm sure there will be forumists there - or perhaps you could send something through the post.
-
I'll be at Blacksmith's and I'm sure Ben will be happy to announce it, if you've got fliers I'll take 'em.
-
I've got a pdf of the flier, Brian - I'll email it to you if you could print out a couple -
I'll prepare something in black and white that is easier to print, too!
-
It's not here yet Maggi ;)
-
It's not here yet Maggi ;)
It should be now!
-
Indeed it is, forgot to log on and say so. my apologies. ;)
-
I expect you were sensibly employed eating supper, Brian - thanks very much for your offer of help
:-* :-* :-*
-
Emma : how are ticket sales going now?
-
I'm going to go see Pam tonight , I will ask her then . Fingers crossed they are selling tickets !
-
We put fliers on the tables and posters up at Blacksmiths Day, one person has already asked me whether I thought it was worth it (the lady with the nails) so hopefully there was more interest too.
-
I think it's worth it ! ::) but I might be biased :-*
-
Well naturally, although I can't make it, I said it was not to be missed ;)
-
I'm going to go see Pam tonight , I will ask her then . Fingers crossed they are selling tickets !
Hi Emma, will we get a ticket by post or are you just having a list ?
-
I think tickets will be sent out shortly
-
PLEASE PLEASE BUY SOME TICKETS - plenty left at the moment!
-
I just don't believe it Emma, how can that be ??? ??? ??? ??? I'm really looking forward to a whole weekend of snowdrops, Shaftsbury followed by an overnight with a galanthophile friend en route then up to the HPS Ragby Hall event, and if there's still an hour an a half to spare over to Ashwood Nursery for a Cyclamen browse. We don't get out of the south west that often ;D ;D
Surely there will be a rush when the sun shines and the floods subside. As you say the venue is good old Shaftsbury- on- Hill.
-
I don't understand either
-
I know that the Europeans aren't able to make it .
-
That's very disappointing but there was some interest at the AGS meeting and judging by my older clients, many of whom are still reluctant to buy online, you might be getting some more applications though the post. The pity is that you have not got any publicity in the national press such as a mention in one of the snowdrop articles that prevail at this time of year.
-
Emma - just modify your plans a little depending on how the sales go, and enjoy a slightly different event with a very select group of people. It will grow from there. If we weren't opening our garden the next day I would definitely come, and I agree with Maggi - it takes support from people as well as all the efforts of organising something; and those who do support the Shaftesbury day are likely to go on doing so.
-
Emma
I can't come either - I was booked for Kalmthout and Zaanse Schans before Christmas - but you sounded quite down - so I think Tim's right, enjoy your event and those friends and enthusiasts who can make it. As always Shakespeare has exactly the right words:
O, do not wish one more!
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
Steve
-
Excellent quote, Steve, but not exactly the right words. How about:
O, do not wish one more!
We few, we happy few, we band of siblings;
And galanthophiles in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods (and womenhoods) cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Walfrid's day.
(Also, hopefully, the sales tables will be less of a fight than usual at such events!)
-
Lol yes Alan , plenty of room to grab all those snowdrops you've missed in the past .
Thanks for your kind words
-
Lol yes Alan , plenty of room to grab all those snowdrops you've missed in the past .
Well if that doesn't get the applications rolling in I don't know what would :D
-
Was laminating signs this morning and accidentally ;) did the flier you gave me at Myddleton, seemed a shame to waste it so now up on my greenhouse door.
I'll also mention it on my guided walks. First week is free to RHS members and often quite busy so hopefully it'll help shift a few last minute tickets.
-
Richard, I suggest you make sure you emphasise that the Shaftesbury event has been put on at short notice so there will be tickets available, even for last-minute applicants. Otherwise people might assume that the event will be fully-booked by now, as snowdrop events often are.
Emma, at some point closer to the day you might decide to make tickets available on the door. Indeed if you have yet to send out the tickets, you could decide to send that information with the tickets and thereby pick a up few "friends and family" accompanying the people who have already bought tickets as well as latecomers.
To clarify for anyone else reading this, tickets will NOT be sold on the door as things stand (AFAIK); that's just my suggestion for a possible option.
-
Steve, do you know that Annie Fallinger has her open garden also next sunday? It is in halfway of both events, you are visiting.
Have fun.
Lina.
-
Alan, will do.
-
I think Alan's got a really good point there, selling tickets on the door. The weather often affects what people choose to do . I know if its raining/ snowing etc I'd much rather be sitting in a cosy lecture theatre listening to some real experts than being at home. And if its sunny what better way to spend an afternoon than looking round a snowdrop collection :D :D :D
There may be loads of spontaneous galanthophiles there ;D
-
Only problem with that, as we have discovered is catering.
-
Mobile chip van :D :D
-
Would get my vote.
Hoping we've got one of our chilli festival stalls coming for some drop weekends, makes amazing Harissa chicken ;D
-
Lina,
Yes, hoping to get to Annie's, but dependent on how long it takes to pick up a violin in Haarlem when I leave Kalmthout or whether I can do the pick-up after Dordrecht. Loes and Andre tempted me re the Sunday but I fear I can't change my travel plans at this stage. Still might see you! New avatar here might aid recognition. (The avatar doesn't show the sizeable piece of Border tart I'm holding in the Barn at Beal, close to the Holy Island causeway).
Steve

Lina.
-
Steve, would be nice if you could make it to Annie's. We will be there at 10. And probably spend there a while.
Have a good trip.
Lina.
-
I'm doing exactly the same as you Jo......................Shaftesbury snowdrop festival on Saturday & the HPS do at Ragley Hall on Sunday.
It will be nice to meet you again.

I don't know where time goes Mike, it'll be fun to catch up. I like the idea of spicy moroccan lamb with home made harissa to keep the weather from being too lowering ::)
-
Tickets are still selling . Into the 50s now. Just been advertised in local paper with a distribution of fifty thousand in a free snowdrop pullout .
Any one up for a swap meet while at Shaftesbury ?
-
Good news about this tickets, re swapping will check what I have in pots, given the conditions :-\ it's unlikely I will be able to lift anything for a while, just got up and it's chucking it down again....
-
I'm very pleased tickets are still selling - I thought that would happen as word gets around.
I don't think I have much to swap this year, but I'll take a wander round the garden to make sure.
-
Hi Emma, a swop meat sounds less fishy than the chip van
I'll put in some stuff to swop, where and when ? its an early start from here ::)
-
I'm sure we can find some time over lunch perhaps
-
How many Atkinsii's would you trade for a spicy moroccan lamb, I wonder?

I reckon about three potfuls for a plateful :D
-
When will we receive our ticket?
-
Just emailed Pam to find out about tickets !
Apparently there is a rumour going around that we have cancelled the event ! THIS IS NOT TRUE , EVERY THING IS GOING AHEAD AS PLANNED !
We can sell tickets on the door if need be for the day but we would
Ideally prefer you to book through the online shop to avoid disappoinment for three reasons.
If we don't know for certain that you are coming there may not be space left. We are currently using a room which approaching capacity limited space but can plan to use a larger venue if we know firm numbers.
If you turn up on the day we cannot provide you with lunch.
We cannot arrange your garden visit and so it would be our local Shaftesbury walk.
-
Looking forward to seeing people there on Saturday
-
When will we receive our ticket?
There are no tickets being sent out , we will have a list of names on the day to tick off , then you will all get a nice sticker to wear .
Hope that clears things up .
You should have had an email through with directions etc to the venue and parking ? Let me know if you haven't got this .
Once again the event is not cancelled !
-
Emma, I for one have not received the any communication since the email asking me to register. I suspect the false rumour that the event has been cancelled is feeding off this lack of information and the fact that people were expecting tickets to arrive in the mail.
-
Emailed Pam to get that sorted Alan

I haven't received an email. Where's the speshul car park for the event Emma? ;D
-
Yes, the linked 'interactive map' does not tell me either where I should park or where is the venue.
-
Pam is sorting out the email problems , I can't do anything about that my end I don't think . The email that WILL be sent out to everyone does have the map drawn on it with everything labeled .

Saturday 15th February 2014
Hello and thank you for booking to come to Shaftesbury. If you have not yet sent in your registration form, we need these by 12th February.
What is the registration form and why is it needed? I paid by PayPal so all my details are known.
I have no special requirements.
-
So we can make name tags , find out if you allergic to any foods we have planed for lunch, which if any of the gardens you might want to visit
-
My email from Pam with details of the arrangements arrived at 18:30. It's the first ever such event where I have been able to do the whole process online. Some people may not like that but for me it's a plus.
-
Emma, You probably know about this but the email that I got from Avon Bulbs today had a very inspiring promotion of your event. I hope it leads to a lot of ticket sales. Here it is:
Events
The weekend before it was Ireland and the Midlands, this weekend it was East Anglia. But a new snowdrop event is being organised in Dorset, that will enthuse anyone who can get there. Shaftesbury is a lovely characterful town and they are holding their 2nd Snowdrop Festival from the 15 Feb - 1st March. The highlight will be a study day with the likes of John Grimshaw talking about Primrose Warburg's Garden (illustrated I hope by his fantastic photos), Melvyn Jope on the autumn flowering forms of snowdrops from his travels in Greece - a ray of sunshine there. Also Andy Byfield on his experiences in Turkey - he will no doubt be as entertaining and instructive as ever. And we shall be selling, along with several other "'droppers". All this on the 15th February. Do think about coming -you can book online.
-
I've just paid/emailed a form off... looking forward to it/meeting people!
-
Good old Avon Bulbs. it's last minute but that's just the sort of extra publicity that will help this event along.
-
I'm really looking forward to Saturday now ;D numbers of tickets sold is just about right to cover our costs and tickets are still selling so that's all good
-
What a relief, Emma!
Hope it goes well and everyone has a smashing time,
cheers
fermi
-
Lol may as well make the most of the buzz we do have evolution plants selling at the event on Saturday 8)
-
Any questions about tomorrow ?
-
My mum has made some snowdrop hats and they will be for sale tomorrow
-
I hope it goes well and you all have a terrific day, just wish I was coming too, but will catch up with some people at HPS on Sunday. Enjoy ;D
-
Best wishes for your event, bit far to travel for me especially at this time of year, but wish I was there!
-
Have a great day tomorrow, Emma. Looking forward to reading about it :)
-
Emma, hope you will have a great day tomorrow. That the weather may be with you ;).
Hope you all will have a lovely day, please take some pictures. Always great to look at :D.
-
Still blowing a gale here :(
Hoped the storm would have blown over by morning so will make a decision at 0700 but if winds haven't dropped won't be coming, it's a 5 hour+ round trip and not conditions I would drive in.
-
after dodging lots of fallen trees in the village had a very windy trip down, but what a great day!
Firstly to put something like that on with a just a few weeks planning was amazing, great venue, speakers, food & as always company. Shame I had to miss the garden visits but having been up very early and a long drive home decided to head back, REALLY hope it'll happen again and I'll stay over to make a weekend of it.
Emma & everyone involved should be very proud.
didn't take many pics, came home with nice stuff.
the white card is from John Grimshaw, Primrose Warbrug used them to send out invites, a perfect snowdrop bible bookmark!
-
Both Jan and I would like to pass on our congratulations to ALL those involved with the organisation of the event today, and what a great idea getting the students from the local school involved as well
It was just as things should be a nice relaxed event,a very social gathering,a great meeting of forumists as well
Had a nice stroll around the town afterwards apart from the minor slip up on our way back to the town ;D those who saw us both will understand ;D
A few pictures from today and a picture of a pile of stones that we passed on the way home
Looking forward to next year :) :) :) ;)
-
I was hoping that Maggi and Ian would show up. Their badges were ready and waiting at the door.
And we were missing one or two others who I did think were coming. I hope everyone is okay.
-
Glad you all had a wonderful time...what a marvellous cake!!
-
Ian had a busy day at Dunblane for the Early Bulb Day - he's on the stage in the first of Stan's photos, setting up the sound and projection stuff - not sure if he got cake but he did get a bacon butty and soup.
I thought I would be in Dunblane too but that didn't work out because of dog sitting issues and one which was poorly yesterday - so I missed all the talks and all the wonderful baking in Dunblane as well as that fabulous cake in Shaftesbury. I'll show you later what I have here as a consolation!
-
A few pictures from today and a picture of a pile of stones that we passed on the way home
Amazing what those floods will wash up, isn't it? ::) ;D
This is what we have to enjoy of the day

John Grimshaw has " blogged " appreciatively about the event :
http://johngrimshawsgardendiary.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/the-shaftesbury-snowdrop-festival.html (http://johngrimshawsgardendiary.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/the-shaftesbury-snowdrop-festival.html)
I am so pleased that the SRGC Forum had such an input to this super event and was able to give some sponsorship to it.
-
Chas summed it up perfectly - a relaxed social gathering, with excellent food, entertaining informative speakers and the chance to buy some snowdrops to add to the collection.
Pam and Emma deserve our thanks for putting on such a wonderful day at such short notice. We all hope that when they have had time to reflect they will decide to have another one next year.
And Maggi also deserves our thanks for her support and encouragement.
-
Thanks again for the germolene scented drop Arthur, today it reminded me of fishing maggots... :-\
Is an odd one, think I will carry on using S Arnott to let the visitors sniff ;)
-
Thank you Maggi and Scottish rock garden for your support , thank you for everyone who came and everyone who wants to come next time !
It was a great day , I'm worn out .
Got back to find that our poplar wind break no longer exists ! Bugger ! I will do an update when I've had more sleep and recovered for HPS DAY
-
You've had a very busy weekend , Emma, not surprised you're exhausted.
Sorry to hear about the loss of the garden's windbreak. I shudder to think of the piles of wood being generated over the last few storms with so much damage caused.
-
At least we are well supplied with wood for next year's hard winter! Looks like the winds have subsided at last and a few good sunny days are stimulating seed germination.
-
The Shaftesbury Snowdrop 'do' was excellent, an amazing achievement.
It was really good to meet up with fellow forum members again.
Mike
ps Glad to see you made it back up Gold Hill Chas!
-
As I've said on another thread... apologies for not having chance to write this before...
I really enjoyed the Shaftesbury day... well done Emma, Pam and the other helpers. It was good to meet quite a few of you for the first time (Mike, Arthur, Gail and Richard) and as Richard has said, thanks for the Snowdrop Arthur.
