Looking for seeds of Sorbus megalocarpa. Having said that I wonder if it is hardy enough for here as it grows between 1300m to 2700m in China, hardly high enough to have much hardiness at all.

Seems to be a tree carried by various UK nurseries, John - but as to any hardiness question..............??

It would also depend on the latitude! :P

I have grown this species, quite hardy wood-wise, but rather early into growth & this new growth very vulnerable to spring frosts ~ not really a great success here in the English midlands.

Thanks Malcolm - My guess is the altitude mentioned is in the broad-leafed evergreen tree zone. We have to stay clear of most plants there aside from a few perennials. Gansu might be a different story.
Several of the Sorbus here leaf out very early but seem to get away with it unscathed, I'm thinking of S. aff. caloneura. As a youngster it would leaf out in the frame despite temps in the teens F. I cannot fathom how it tolerates this.
