Title: Crocus autumn-2013 started
Post by: Janis Ruksans on August 25, 2013, 03:14:20 PM
It was strangest season in my memory. Very long and late winter in few days changed to hot summer omitting real spring, as result shortening blooming and growing season, so corms were smaller than usualy, especially spring bloomers, but those which are passing winter in leaves grew very well.
Autumn crocus blooming started 7-th of August. In early morning I saw nice buds of Crocus scharojanii - in mid-day, when I came with camera, they were wilted (temperature in greenhouse raised up to + 42 C). I pictured those to document such unusual occasion.
Yesterday I finished replanting of crocuses and all of them got first watering. Temparature now is more comfortable - las night we had only + 7 C, but in day temperature in greenhouse raised up to 22 C. Colchicums blooms much more abbundantly, but many shoots of crocuses comes out. The first ones are Crocus suworovianus - from Yaylasuyun gec. 2330 – 2400m  (BATM-200) and another one - lilac striped got under name Crocus suworovianus lilacinus from Czech friend.

good to see crocus images again :)

A pity for the scharojanii flower likely without pollination - did the crocus push another flower for compensation?

Yes, it is nice to see Crocus flowers again, but it is sad too see the scharojanii flower damaged by the extreme heat.

Crocus scharojanii flavus is my first crocus to open. C. suworovianus and cappadocicus has just broken through the gravel.

Hello!
The Crocus fever is unbroken!   ;D

And madness-that was fast!
Two Cr.speciosus `Albus` bloom in the meadow and in the flower bed.
The flower in the bed was today morning completely in the open- unfortunately I did not have a camera here.
I have the feeling that the flowers are very early - from the normal Cr.speciosus is not even seen a tip!
Bloom white speciosus always early?
Best regards Daniel
