Title: Leptodermis oblonga
Post by: shelagh on July 15, 2013, 11:35:30 AM
Saw this lovely little shrub at Tewkesbury AGS show on Saturday but am having difficulty locating one in this country. Several American nurseries sell it but not here.  Can any one help please?

Hello Shelagh - I bought this from Blackthorn a couple of years ago and it is beginning to sucker a little in the garden. If you send me your address I will try to get a bit up later in the autumn when it cools down, and we must take cuttings!

For anyone not familiar with this Chinese shrub, here is a good page on it (http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/gardens-gardening/your-garden/plant-finder/plant-details/kc/b212/leptodermis-oblonga.aspx) from the Missouri Bot. Garden Site

Note on the Missouri Bot. Garden link, it grows taller than 1-1.5', my shrub has grown to 4' (120 cm); I'm sure it would be easy to key smaller with occasional pruning. Flor of China reports height as "0.2-1 m tall or slightly taller". Similar to Tim's experience, it has also started to sucker a bit.

Thanks for the information. The one on the show bench was about 18inches.
