Early or what?
Roscoea courtleyoides Purple Form
-
I'm thinking of moving my patch of Roscoeas to a more shady spot, presently they get full sun and although they are usually in full flower mid to the end of May they don't last very long. Should I move them as they go over or are they best moved when the noses first come through please?
-
I gently pulled apart my Jeffrey Thomas while dormant. The tubers get very entrangled
-
Thanks Mark, it's remembering where they are that's the problem ;D
-
How can I stop the purple flowered forms bleaching? Perfect one day and looking cr@p the next
-
That's one of the reasons I want to move mine, too much sun.
-
some days ago my white humeana flowers. now the first flowers are gone, but the seconds are open. still in pot because of too valuable for planting in my garden. last year i lost one because of too rainy weather. the normal forms of humeana just start to flower in the garden + will be in full flower within the next days. they look much stronger than this little white gem.

I think the shade pays off Mark, lovely plant. The 'Harvington' brand plants, including the Hellebores are always good plants and good value for money.

Very nice roscoea,
I've some in the garden but they grow at the moment , no flower this week.
The weather was not very good for the start of the spring season.
The next year pictures

I enjoyed looking at everybody's Roscoea! Especially Greenspan's white humeana and Botanica's first pic caught my eye!
Here is some of my Roscoea flowering right now in my garden. It's R. scillifolia 'black form'. You can't really tell the size of the flower from the picture but it is very small. I had to use my macro lens to get this close!

A really lovely white Greenspan, and a lovely dark form from you Peppa. I really like dark coloured flowers. I had a similar one some years ago and know how small it is.
One in flower with me jut now i R. 'Pennine Purple'. The others are just coming through and will be a while before flowering.

interesting Roscoea 'Pennine Purple' graham...have a look to this one, a seedling of my yellow/whitish flowering Roscoea 'Jeffry Thomas' (a cautleyoides cultivar i guess). looks similar, isn't it?

Hi Greenspan,
This is a Hartside Nursery Gardens own selection but as you say they look very similar.
Quote from their catalogue.
Roscoea cautleyoides 'Pennine Purple'
Our own selection a chance seedling which stood out as having a better colour than the other lilac and purple forms around.
We have been slowly building up the numbers of this selection by dividing the plants regularly.
A good clean colour with an attractive contrasting cream eye. Flowering mainly in May & June and producing some flowers regularly later in the summer.
