Title: Arilbred iris 2013
Post by: majallison on May 16, 2013, 09:26:31 PM
I'm new to growing these, but think they're just delightful. Here are a couple of plants which I received last September from Iris Lomer in Spain, flowers now opening.

The first is a Geoff Wilson seedling, AB seedling 7; the second is 'Sheba's Jewel'.

The plants came through the winter easily enough, I'm all primed to cover the frame where they grow for the summer.

Malcolm I am glad that you are growing one of Geoff's seedlings as I believe he now does not grow them. I have a few growing here that  I grew from seed that Geoff sent to me. I trust that you will grow more arils and arilbreds in the future.

Pat, I love them & I have a few regeliabred hybrids growing on my allotment, but space is always an issue in my little garden; but I'm very tempted to acquire more

Not sure if this is in the correct section.
One of Janis's Iris 'Spirit of Caleb'
Flowering well after spending last summer in permeant rain.

Seems this is a Peter McGrath arilbred from 2002 -  see an award given 2006 : http://wiki.irises.org/bin/view/Main/InfoAwards2006 (http://wiki.irises.org/bin/view/Main/InfoAwards2006)

Great colour - I'm glad something liked last year's rain!

Yes Pete McGrath has brought out some great arilbreds with large signals. Just weeding my aril beds at present and finding suitable spots to plant some more small seed grown plants.
