They are absolutely beautiful!
Can I ask you some questions:
- Where are you based?
How are your raised beds built? Can you share the plans?
What type of compost did you use to fill the beds?
What is the orientation of the beds (north, south facing ....)?

Hakone - Can you tell me anything about the hardiness of these two Borinda? I have them both but have not tried them out in the garden yet. I have more hope for the B. yulongshanensis than macclureana. The former was collected at very high altitude - 4200m - at least the Linder form was.
I assume you are in Germany for some reason......

-
Johnw,
I bought them from Jos van der Palen, http://www.kimmei.com/d.html. (http://www.kimmei.com/d.html.) The plants are since 7 Years in the garden . I have in winter minus 7 to minus 12 degrees Celsius.
-
Going down to -12oC would indicate fairly hardy, but how about winter wet?
-
USDA Zones 7 b , cover with bamboos leaves
-

Good point Anthony, the Borindas apparently do not like winter wet. Maybe frozen wet is okay but -12c is no indication of any hardiness whatsoever for us.

Could you tell us whereabouts these photos were taken? I am getting a little confused by the various captions.
-
in my gardens: Hakone Gardens , Kumamoto Gardens and Rokko Gardens .
-
Hi Hakone,
You are making me envious with your pictures :-)
Can you tell us where are the gardens? Are they very far apart? do you have the same climatic conditions?
Best,
-
So according to Google that's two in Japan and one in California. Have I misgoogled? Confusion now rampant!
-
My garden is located in Germany, USDA 8 b . I use the name Hakone for a reminder .
Hakone is : Hakone (箱根町 Hakone-machi ) is a town in Ashigarashimo District in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
Kumamoto :
Kumamoto (熊本市, Kumamoto-shi) is the capital city of Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, Japan.
Rokko :
Mount Rokko (931 meters) is the highest peak in the Rokko mountain range, which provides the pleasant green backdrop to the city of Kobe.

Yes, bamboo ( plants in the grass family Poaceae ) is very powerful. In China and Japan most cypripediums grow with bamboo.
An example:
cypripedium japonicum grows native under the bamboo.

-
- this picture as an example - this is a joke?
This is not a joke . That's just the truth
http://www.orchidspecies.com/cypjaponicum.htm (http://www.orchidspecies.com/cypjaponicum.htm)
-
- No my friend, you are making "circus" - your pictures are from the garden or park and both have nothing to do with any "native" occurance. I don't see any reason to continue.
Kristof
P.S. Also I will not comment "In China and Japan most cypripediums grow with bamboo."
Hardy Cypripedium , species, hybrids and cultivation , Werner Frosch and Phillip Cribb , Kew Publishing,
page 94 . Cypripedium Elegans : Distribution and Habitat ........, in clearings in bamboo and Abies forest
page 112 . Cypripedium Wumengense : Distribution and Habitat ....on limestone under Sinoarundinaria bamboo clumps.

-
Please, speaking as Moderator of the Forum : I do not believe there is any attempt to make jokes or such here- nor to make propaganda, so I would appreciate if the posts of forumists would be respected.
Some comments here are somewhat ill-tempered and not what is expected in this forum.
-
With full respect - this person have newest book of Cribb & Frosch but providing us with absolutely untrue informations. So which kind of reaction should be correct in this case??? If example with asian species like Cypripedium elegans and Cyp.wumengense means that "In China and Japan most cypripediums grow with bamboo" - so really, no more comments

Welcome back, Maggi, you have been missed. :) ;):)
I hope you had a wonderful time at the Czech alpine garden conference. I look forward to hearing all about it. :)
-
Thank you, Maren,
The conference and garden visits were incredible. There were some good cyps. on display in the Prague outdoor show, which had won premier awards- but the rain was so heavy on the day of our visit that I didn't get any photos of them - I'm sure someone will though - you can see lots in this thread
http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=10484.0 (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=10484.0)
The organisation of the whole event was of impeccable quality- everything was thought of by the Czech Team so that our every need was catered for - FANTASTIC!!!
-
Hi Maggi,
that sounds wonderful. I wish I'd been able to come, but so many other commitments.
Never mind about the pics, just feast on the images in your mind's eye. I hope they stay with you for a long time. :) :) :)

Hakone...A very nice tibeticum with a lot of yellow...I remember reading posts on another forum where they thought this was a natural hybrid with flavum. In the wild they grew together. Its very nice and a variable sp..thanks for showing :)
