Title: Galanthus and 6-benzylaminopurine
Post by: Ru on March 17, 2013, 09:59:14 PM
It is well known that 6-benzylaminopurine (6-benzyladenine) and kinetin is used for arousal stimulation of dormant buds on lots of plants as well as for accelerated reproduction of bulbous plants.
I would be very much obliged if you inform me whether a similar routine practice for snowdrops exists.

I do not want to cut exclusive bulbs.
I have available all basic hormones .

Example of stimulation of ALL buds. Hemerocallis in vitro in my laboratory (in the past).
My familiar very successfully applies 6-BAP (in vivo) on Iris and Hemerocallis. In the past, I saw the article, where multiplied  Alium spp (in vivo), which in a norm in general are not divided.

A quick Google search reveals that this has been done, as here: http://www.jhortscib.org/Vol87/87_6/1.htm (http://www.jhortscib.org/Vol87/87_6/1.htm)

Both authors are (or were) based in Belfast.  I think Chris Selby is here http://www.afbini.gov.uk/ (http://www.afbini.gov.uk/) and I Staikidou is here http://www.qub.ac.uk/schools/SchoolofBiologicalSciences/ (http://www.qub.ac.uk/schools/SchoolofBiologicalSciences/) (although I don't see him/her listed under staff).

I wonder if our correspondent, Mark Smyth, who is based quite close to Belfast, can shed any more light on this?

I do believe the problem in the past has been transferring from the flask to a normal growing medium, although I could be wrong?

Thank you, Alan.
Alas, this article about growing of in vitro.
My question about application of this hormone for the snowdrops  of in vivo

I have never heard of it being used in vivo.  But, truth be told, most galanthophiles are amateurs compared to those who breed and propagate narcissi.  Perhaps you should look in that direction?
